There's plenty of crap to worry about nowadays, but having anyone else flying airplanes that say Horizon on the side shouldn't be on the list. I haven't researched it, but I imagine the AS pilots have similar protection.
Just playing the devil's advocate here, but might not the economics of something in the 90-100 seat range plus the whipsaw value make it a viable option? When Alaska reworked its capacity purchase agreement with Horizon several years ago it sure looked like they were trying to redefine the relationship more as an "express" type agreement and less as synergy between two complimentary companies.
It's a buyer's market for small jet lift right now-I'm guessing that Alaska could get someone to agree to some fairly rigorous brand-preserving performance criteria in oder to close the deal. Handing out free beer ain't rocket science after all. There are obviously pilots out there willing to fly the planes for next to nothing-can you see Sky West pilots turning down an opportunity to fly EMB 190's for a few bucks over their RJ rates? Not likely.
