Couldn't believe it, full page ad in the Money section of today's USA Today. Every regional pilot on the planet should send ALPA a post card saying thanks. The ad highlights our $17,600/yr starting salary in BIG BOLD LETTERS. Also mentions that many crewmembers must work second jobs to make ends meet. Check it out!

Let me guess... It's not ExpressJet that's crowing about low-paid FO's needing second jobs.

Perhaps ALPA put this ad in USAToday? Your title for the thread suggests that the company paid for the ad.

It was the CAL ALPA MEC that put this ad in the USA Today - obviously not the company.

Can someone post a link to it? Otherwise I have to spend 50 cents to get my own. Which would bring the grand total down to 17,599.50. But I guess I can always do the crossword Puzzle!

You mean you have to pay for newspaper!

I got my daily reading materials couple ways:

1) Walk thru couple sitting areas where they just boarded a flight, usually a lot of goodies, newspapers,
maybe even some good magazines!

2) Sit in the food court, and take anything that you can get your hands on when the tourists' not watching!
3) Of course, you can always ask your CA for his old newspaper.

Also, make sure on the first leg of the day, that it is of up most important that the F/A's main mission to keep his/her crew happy is to beat any passenger into submission that doesnt know how to operate the seat belt and retrive his/her USA Today and deliever it to the Flight Deck ASAP. She/He will then realize soon how much easier there day and job just became by supplying us the USA Today.

Joke I heard from a US Airways F/A....

How can a US Airways F/A tell if she hooked up with a pilot the night before?

When she wakes up in the morning and her breath smells like peanuts, and her USA Today is missing!!!

Is it in today's Paper? I bought the paper, and the only article I see is about fuel prices.

Like that last bite of eclair or hot dog bun that just went on top of the garbage pile....

YES YES YES! It's about time something like this was done. The public should be aware of this "How low can we go" attitude at the airlines. After all, why is it that my company can afford to pay me more to fly an aztec 60 hours a month, then some regionals pay their captains?

Even though I don't fly for the airlines, I'm 100% with you guys in stopping this downward spiral.

Best of luck-

Mike.

Not to steal your thunder Coex... but you weren't the first ones to realize this. NW ALPA put up a billboard in MSP during our contract efforts. You honestly believe we at XJ set our current contract as the one we really wanted? This isn't the right thread to debate this and frankly we don't have to as it has been exhausted ad nauseaum already.

Best of luck to you all,

FO

No one said that we were the first, but that it had been done, therefore no thunder stolen.

Captjim - the original post to me seemed like this was some ground breaking thing ALPA has done. And then in another post someone said "it's about time something like this was done." See, it WAS done... that's the only point to my post. It sure is interesting being on the other side of the fence now that our contract is settled. I can honestly say I know how Coex and ASA feel right now. And it 'aint a good feeling!

Again... best of luck to you all,

FO

The public doesn't care about what you make a year. They want to ride on jets, not props and they think all commercial pilots make big cash!

Continental Express Pilots
We are professional pilots and we deserve a contract that reflects this.
2,500 Professional Airline Pilots
Instrumental in making their company 2003 Regional Airline of the Year by safely transporting over 50,000 passengers daily to more than 130 destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

$17,600 - starting annual salary

Some of the professional pilots of Continental Express must do more than just fly airplanes in order to feed their families. Along with safely flying your airplane, the might work in a restaurant or in the retail industry. The might also proudly server our country in the military.

Please support the men and women who fly for Continental Express Airlines as they continue negotiations for a new contract.

Paid for by Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l.
-----------------------------------------------

Good luck with the negotiations. Even if they go well I doubt the starting salary will change any. Never has in the past 10+ years and probably never will unless there ever is a true shortage of pilots to fill the seats.

I applaud the move. Go ALPA!
