Hello Y'all;

On previous threads, the age old new hire " should I try to get based out of IAH or EWR?" question comes up. If I am commuting from San Diego, which would be the best choice for holding a line quickly, with commutability factored in? I start in training in August, and just wanted to start thinking about it. Thanks!

Please, don't be shy, blurt anything out, I'm psyched to get lots of opinions!

How about apply to SkyWest, be based in San Diego, and not commute?

Sorry, you said to blurt anything out, and that's the first thing that crossed my mind.

If it has to be ExpressJet, then I'd go with IAH. At least you'd have some direct flights and fewer weather delays. And, only a two hour time zone difference as opposed to three hours.

English;

Yup, I know--> wife is military, didn't know we would be moving there, and I'm not outta the navy till August. Had the job before wife had next orders.

We have a lot of commuters at this company. I live in PHX and the commute can be a little hard at times, but I'd say IAH is best for you.

So how is that commute going $umbitch ?

Just an aside.....if you are in a class towards the end of the month plan on getting either EWR or CLE. Houston new-hire slots fill up very quickly during the earlier classes in the month.

Seniority at ExpressJet is determined by applying factors in this order:

1. Date of Hire
2. Date of Birth
3. Alphabetically by first initial of LAST name

For what it's worth, the last two classes of this month had only 1 person go to CLE....all the rest went to EWR.

You should be able to hold Houston if you were not able to initially within the next bid cycle....right now occur every 4-6 months....and will be advanced to that base within 9-12 months.

So theoretically you could spend a while in EWR trying to get to IAH. But I agree with Captain Jim........IAH or EWR are gonna be best for a west-coast commuter.

IAH is the best of those two because of MASSIVE expansion......and of course the shorter ride to get home.

Who cares about how his commute is going? The point of the move was to improve the babe situation, so.. Hey, Cpt. Jim, how's the babe situation in PHX coming???????

Capt. X, Capt.Jim, English;

Many Many Thanks to you fine Gents!! As usual, those of you that work at XJT have been totally cool to me, I am totally looking forward to meeting you all this summer!

I'm glad to hear that IAH is the best place to go all-'round. That's where I wanted to go anyway (commute time way less). I'll try my best to get there after training.

Worst case, I go to EWR, and sit reserve for a little while in my home state (Yup--I'm a North Jersey guy). I'll get to say hello to my home town, SPARTA, for the 1st time in 7 years!!!! YEEEHAW!

Are all of you West Coast Guys?

Well, I don't work at ExpressJet, I'm hardly a gentleman, but I am on the West Coast. Best of luck to you! Sounds like a win-win situation for you.

Thanks, REALLY, I mean it!

That’s just freakin great...

I’d like to personally thank you and every other working for peanuts pilot out there for taking the job. I had an interview and offer with Express Jet but turned it down. It looks like first year pay is maybe 18K. Add in the fact that you get paid nothing while in training and you might make 15K a year. Ahh yes, but then there is the $1.40 per-diem. So if you sit on the ground for 10 hours you get an extra $15.00.

Do you think you will be treated better later on; or have you just set a defacto standard for acceptable treatment and pay?

But hey, if you didn’t take that job somebody else would right? Or are you that guy?

Will you wine when you can’t get a decent paying job later on because there are none thanks to YOU?

Will you be surprised when you find yourself flying with idiots that are no fun to talk to all day because you get what you pay for with employees too?

I’m not angry… I enjoyed my brief stint as a professional pilot and I’d do it again. I am disappointed and I will laugh and laugh and laugh when you guys figure out what happened.

The majors will fly international routes only. (or did that already happen?)

There are fewer than a few hundred “Major” airline pilots that are ALL retired ex-military. (or did that already happen?)

The best you can hope for is 75K after 20 years and no retirement. (or did that already happen?)

Do you really need to rain on this guy's parade? Besides, he didn't ask for advice about whether he should or shouldn't work there. He asked about the commute.

I've had my hand full with a couple elsewhere until now, Captain X met one of them, she's HOT! I haven't had to much of a chance to scope out the new territory becouse I've been flying so much. I do have a couple nibbles, so stay tuned I'll let you know if I get anymore in the boat!:D

Yo Cynic;

Angry People do not impress me; do you always get this way
on Memorial Day?

Have a beer, relax, and enjoy the fact that you have it all
figured out. Myself and the rest of the people on this forum
will tough it out until, we too, figure it out just like you have.

Well spoken C12Bubba. I echo what you said about MOST of the fine folks on this board. (See English...I didn't call you a gent) :)

Bubba, I look forward to meeting you this summer when I too begin training. Sorry I have to compete with you for IAH though. When do you expect to start? You can PM me if you want.

That's Capt. Idiot to you pal.

I think I saw that Cynic guy at the training center last week..

He left early. :)

OK tough guy... Proove it then. Why don't you tell us who you interviewed with, when, how it went and how many other supposed jobs you turned down.
