I work for a regional airline and am upgrading next month. I've taken my ATP written but it has expired. I took it while I was employed with my previous part 121 carrier, got furloughed then got hired by my present 121 carrier where I've been employed ever since and where I was when my written expired. My question is, is the written any good? Two people in my training dept. have told me I'm ok.
I'm just covering all my bases. Any one have and personal experience with something like this?

Thanks

You are good provided it is done via your companies approved upgarde program. It is in FAR Part 61

As long as the written expired while you were working at your current company, you're good to go. Good luck with upgrade.

FAR 61.39 (b) (1) (i) (ii) will answer your question.
In summary if you are employed as a flight crew member under 121, 135 or 125 at the time of the pratical test and trained & check under the company training program, you can take the ATP practical test with an expired knowledge test report.

What it boils down to is the DPE's/Check Airman's interpretation of how the reg is worded. It is ambiguous. (sp?)

I had a student (with an expired ATP written) who was currently employed at a 121 carrier pass his ATP ride with a part 91 examiner in a Duchess. (He wanted out of the regionals.)

Best advice I'd give would be to ask whoever is giving the ride. My interpretation of the reg is that you are good to go as long as you are currently employed at a 121 carrier.

Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciate it. I have talked to two instructors in the training dept and they said I'm ok. I've also reread the regulation and believe that I misread it to begin with. But thanks again....

spartus,
I have had this same question come up before, the reg should state that as long as you are working for a 121 carrier at the time of your check ride there is no time limit to the atp written, regarless of furlough or job changes... with any long periods of non 121 operations and or concerns ask your training department
