I am just curious to know if Eagle still sends all new FO's to San Juan? I have an interview coming up, but since I live in the west, I would like to avoid SJ if possible. It sounds like they are really working on staffing the RJ's at the moment. Any news?

Thanks...

I think eagle sending all new FO to SJ is a blessing since all other hubs you'd have to live in a youth hostel with the salary. During the interview expect a briefing on how wonderful it will be to fly to exotic places like blah blah blah island in the caribean. So in short I think yes is the answer. I know 2 guys that just got down there and are already looking for new jobs.

All Jet Classes

The last two newhire classes at Eagle had all jet slots. The May 24th class had 2 ORD CRJ, 14 DFW ERJ, and 11 BOS ERJ slots. The June 7th class had 12 ORD ERJ and 9 DFW ERJ slots. So, not all newhire FO's are being sent to SJU.

One of my friends was in the last class. The American Eagle ATR-72 simulator was having issues and was not available for training. My friend said this is why everyone is in the jet.

Prior classes were still getting San Juan. (Seniority goes by birthdate)

With multiple classes in a row having zero San Juan positions, get ready for a blast of them in some up-and-coming classes. The gravy train of all-jet positions will end at some point. They are always in need of FO's down there with the amount of people trying to get out.

How does that financial caveat go?: "past performance is no gurantee of future results....."

I may not be recalling this correctly, but I seem to remember some new-hire classes that were mostly ATR-SJU in the past.

ATR slots are all based on the attrition, right now, it's a little slow, SJU is looking more attractive for some I guess...including myself...it was NYC Jet or San Juan, no brainer for me (SJU). When will you have the opportunity to fly around in the Carribean again?...if you are just focused on flying a jet (which you will be flying for the rest of your career), it's not for you. Or if you don't want to try something new, it won't be for you. Why did you choose a career in aviation again? Oh yeah, because you love to fly...keep that in mind and slow down and enjoy life.

What is it that everyone dislikes about being in San Juan?

I haven't beeen there, but I have talked to many who have, and I think the biggest objection is just that it is far from home, wherever "home" may be.

The other big objection seems to be that mainland USA residents are treated as outsiders by many of the locals, even by fellow crewmembers.

Being away from home/loved ones is probably good enough reason for most, but I think the majority of new hires are dissatisfied because of the rather severe contrast between the cost of living/quality of life in SJ versus first year pay at Eagle which makes it difficult to make ends meet!

I have been wondering about this for a long time.

too far from home? I guess flight privileges are not applicable to the family/pilots based in SJU, naaahhh.......

That is crazy, I would rather be there versus any of the other crew bases.

The above poster said it best.
