WOW, what kind of kool aid are you drinking??? I can't believe you are actually comfortable at the bottom of the list at NWA. I'm not even comfortable at the bottom of the list at DAL.

Stop singing kumb-ba-ya so much on this message board, it is making me and many others sick. I appreciate your optimism, but that doesn't pay the bills when you (and I) hit the street.

The no furlough clause in this agreement isn't even worth the PDF paper it was sent on. The only people with any real protection are, like another poster said, TK and above at DAL.

Look around you, UAL and LCC have already announced furloughs. AMR is thinking furloughs too, right? CAL is rumored to furlough in the fall. DAL may have sweaked by without them THIS YEAR and early next year due to our deliveries, but with NWA in the picture it's not likely.

United is furloughing after parking another 90+ airplanes, and they have no new planes coming. We are adding a lot of new planes, including 8 777LRs next year, all of which need lots of pilots. Add to that 10 737-700s we haven't even received yet, and maybe more of them. Then possibly MD90s. LCC is a mess, and their INTL flying is not very strong out of PHL and CLT. We will have a world wide network. You need to relax a bit. CAL is also dropping planes, but they are also getting new 737-900ERs, and after they possibly give their senior guys some cash to leave, there may be very few furloughs there. We probably have a bunch of senior NWA pilots who are waiting to get their equity share, and then will bail with their frozen pension. Just because everyone else is furloughing, doesn't mean we have to. I am not saying it won't happen, rather it doesn't look like it right now for our case....

Also - Anyone have any idea on the SLI as it relates to NWA furloughees on a bypass? I see the no longevity during bypass but what about continuing the bypass and returning once things shake out?

Can any DAL guys post A/C bids out of west coast and current seniority in years and is SNA a co-domicile for LAX?

Our guys (and I mean that collectively) did a great job on this.

They knew that going down the AWA/AAA path was a disaster and that anything like the Nic award debacle was something the combined airline could not SURVIVE, let alone tolerate.

I agree completely. I'm a '99 hire at NW who has been through two furloughs and am looking forward to working for a strong, well run airline. I've been reading this board off and on for the last few months, and it's been a roller coaster. When DAL negotiated LOA19, my initial thoughts were: "Those S.O.B.s over at Delta are trying to screw us." I didn't post any rants, though: Capt. Moak stated that DALPA had to get something in writing because management informed them that the merger was going to happen with or without their blessing, and that the NW pilots would be brought aboard. I thought he deserved a chance to follow through on his statement.

He was true to his word. And I am impressed with the leadership at both DALPA and NWALPA in getting a joint contract ironed out.

With regard to the SLI, I think that anything close to relative percentage would be agreeable. Yeah, we have a lot of retirements at NW in the next few years, but so what? If management keeps shrinking the airline, it doesn't matter. I've moved up 2000 numbers since I was hired, but I'm still sitting at about 12% off the bottom of the list. The very vocal new hires at DAL on this board don't want to lose their WB FO seats on the 767. I understand that, and I think that they should keep them. They were hired at a very unique time with regard to seat position. There may be some stagnation, but I do believe that this merger will better serve them than what would have happened to them if NW and DAL had remained independent.


Hoping for a relatively painless SLI!

That is the way that it should be.
Clearly they thought of most things. I realize that most of my DAL brother's and sister's would have liked to see more. I would have too, but the fact is that equal means equal.
Of course I wish that scope was more restrictive, but the way I see if, it we play our cards correctly, Compass could very well get tacked to the bottom in the SLI. That is the best way to have furlough protection. Top to bottom seniority. Everything from a Dash-8 to a 744 should be flown by mainline.

Curious what makes you think Compass will end up on the list...wouldn't the time to fold CPS back into mainline have been with the JPWA (which actually increased the number of 50-76 seat aircraft to be outsourced!)?

The seniority list can span two certificates. If the certificates changed, it would trigger revised negotiations. Compass is such a special case to begin with... same MEC, bilateral flow, concurrent seniority rights. In reality, it would just be adding the E175/E190 to mainline's property.

I don't think the MEC wants that, but I don't know why. They seem to think it would cost the senior pilots something to a DC9 replacement.

Could some NWA pilots who live in MSP, and DTW shed some light on their pilot ghettos? What towns, neighborhoods, recreational activities etc??

Clacker...I couldn't have said it better! I'm the roughly same seniority (99) as you and also suffered 2 furloughs. I've been biting my tongue for months now. I felt/feel exactly the same way. Here's to hoping for a stable job and not moving!

yeah, it's cold as hell there 7 months out of the year and full of Go Blue snobs who think their sheet doesn't stink. Not a bad commute into Detroit though, just make sure your car has good shocks because the roads in and around Detroit are the worst in the country. Look into Ypsilanti, cheaper and in between the two.

Ann Arbor is great, good beer, food, and sports (University of Michigan). (I am actually about to go play the UM golf course) Kinda on the more expensive side compared to the other suburbs. 20 minute drive down 94 to the airport.

Novi which is about a 30 minute drive to the airport is another nice place. Lots of stuff over there.

Livonia, Northville, Plymouth are family friendly places (good schools). Lots of Golf courses around, lots of softball leagues, and large youth and adult hockey leagues in Livonia. All 20 minutes North of DTW.

There is also Canton, Belleville...they are closer to the airport, they have nice areas. Saline is a bit farther than Ann Arbor.
