A buddy of mine just got laid off from a 135 outfit. they never checked him out with a SIC ride, but they paid him and always had him riding shotgun in a kingair 200, of course, which is a one pilot plane.

I think when his future employer requests a record check, there won't be one,
because he was never put through training and there is no record of a checkride.

Also, he actually wasn't supposed to be occupying the seat on a live leg under the guise of a passenger, since he was placed there as a crewmember at the customer's request.

Am I right?

The practice of letting buddies ride around and then log a 91 ferry leg is frowned on isn't it?

True. BE-20 is a SP plane. Some operators may need to operate them two-pilot to satisify some 135 operating rules, such as no autopilot or reduced take off minimums. But that doesn't appear to be the case here.

Correct.

Correct. FAA would consider him a pax. If he was preforming pilot-duties, that's a no-no.

Yes

Lets just say it 'aint the best way to build time. WAY too much is left open to interpetation with respect to the legality of the time.

thanks...he just called me and said a recent interivewer had no problem with it as there are plenty of down and dirty operators who just won't burn the gas to check a guy out.
