I interviewed and got hired with Chautauqua and Mesa. No class date for either yet. Where should I do go, Mesa or Chautauqua?? Pay is about the same for both with Chautauqua a little higher. Chautauqua also has better work rules. Does it matter if its ERJ or CRJ?? They both code share with US Air. If US Air goes under both will be affected, but Mesa will be better prepared because they have 200+ MILL is cash, Chautauqua is in major debt. I want to fly out of ORD both carriers are talking about opening a hub there, but if need be I could relocate. WHAT SHOULD I DO?? Anyone know how long it would take to upgrade at Mesa or Chautauqua?

Congrats!!!

On one of my recent airline interviews a United captain told me that when I am picking an airline during my career to put there logo's on a dart board and put and blind fold on. Whichever airline you hit that is who you go with...

As a Mesa pilot I would suggest you go to CHQ. Many reasons but my main reasoning is that you will be guaranteed a jet (the QOL in the 1900 at Mesa is really bad mostly because of all the small out of the way bases and constant base closures) and the upgrade on that jet (at least as of right now) is much faster. My understanding is that CHQ is upgrading around 2yrs while Mesa is closer to 4 yrs. Good luck with the decision and feel free to PM me with any questions you don't get answered (as I am sure this thread like all others will turn into a bash fest) about Mesa. -Bean

First off, CHQ is not in major debt. The IPO raised about $65 million this week. The company has shown profitable quarters for about 3 1/2 years.

I am partial to CHQ because I work there. I just completed captain upgrade with 19 months on the seniority list.

I agree that we will be affected if Airways goes under (37 of our 85 aircraft are Airways birds), however I don't doubt for one minute United (up to 125 total aircraft with the codeshare deal) or Delta (even after RFP, 20 options still unexercised) would have a problem picking up these aircraft.

Overall, I think the morale is a bit higher over here, the pay is better, the work rules are much better, and upgrade time can be relatively short.

A former student of mine was hired here in March of this year and has a hard line for June's schedule. He's spent a whopping 10 days on reserve and that's it.

Best of luck with your decision. If you have any other questions, send me a PM.

You are mistaken. CHQ is not in the debt that you think. Especially after the IPO the other day. Delta alone paid RAH 63 million dollars.

Can't you pick something better than one of we sad, lowly, bottom-feeder regionals? :p

Don't get your hopes up on a fast CHQ upgrade. The wheel is going to grind to a halt very soon.

Hey,
A better choice might be, Home Depot vs Lowes.
Run as fast from this industry as you can!
The current butchering of work rules and pay is leading the entire industry into the toilet. F/O's on welfare, Captains not much better. At any regional you get hired at expect 14-17k for the first year. Staggering debt to get here, then the inability to repay even the interest on the debt.
Wake up you fools, you didn't just grab the brass ring, that was the pin on the handgrenade attached to your financial future.

lol... If the guy/gal you're flying with is remotely happy with their compensation, ask them about their retirement. Or how they plan to pay for their childs college tuition. It's like a deer in headlights. If you really want to rock their world, try explaining inflation to them. Ignorance is bliss. I just weep for thier offspring.

Let me just give you this advice, don't ask anyone there about how good their contract is. Oh, and start saving.

CHQ = no junior manning

Mesa = junior manning

CHQ min reserve days off = 11

Mesa reserve min days off = 8

CHQ standard uniform

Mesa cool leather jackets

Pick what you want, but choose wisely young skywalker

Gee, I'm surprised it took this long for the idiots to come out.

And LegacyDriver, if you're so unhappy, why don't you just leave? If I was as unhappy as you obviously are, I hope I'd have enough self-pride to get out.

Believe me I am leaving as soon as I get my 737 type. I'll even go to another Regional for the right offer. The people at CHQ are a bunch of spoiled, underhanded mercenaries. Absolute embarassment to the industry that only 12 people voted no on that terrible contract we signed.

Don't get me wrong. CHQ has some VERY good people, but I think they only amount to a handful. The rest are a bunch of backstabbing weasels.

I would love to tell you to kiss my a$$ but then my name would get out and I want to be safely off the ship before I throw a firebomb in my wake...

This place used to be a family. Thanks to BB it's nothing but every man for himself.

Oh, "God Bless." HA!

And do what with it, wipe your arse?

I was wondering the same thing. Worthless piece of paper. I'd sell mine on Ebay if I could!

Never burn bridges. Your copilot today could be your captain a few airlines from now.

One in the same in most regards, so take your pick... If you get the Dash8 or 1900 at Mesa then you will have a chance to upgrade rather quickly and it is all about 121 PIC time. If you are concerned about the pay and QOL then try Comair, by far blows CHQ and Mesa right out of the water, not even close.

3 5 0

Hey you can't disagree with 350driver, he's ALWAYS right. Just ask him.

1000 turbine 121 PIC, then what?
stand in line for a Southwest interview, oh wait a minute forgot about the ol' 73 type. 'nuther 6-8 grand now you can wait in line with thousands of other pilots with thousands of 73 time PIC and otherwise. WAKE UP, you are gonna be on welfare till JO or someother whoremonger, folds up his card table and sends you home with nothing more than a burning sensation every time you go #2.
Unfreaking believable.
