Hey guys Im hoping to finish my commercial up this June and I go back to school during the second week of august do you think if I had all of July and half of August and met 5 times a week Id be able to get my CFI done? Thanks
 
Id would certainly say its doable, but like VW pilot said, it all depends on you.
 
Fly the commercial in the right seat. Talk out each maneuver you do from now til the CFI. Have everything prepared before you get to the CFI training. While working on your commercial, put together lesson plans on all of the required manuevers for each rating/certificate.

If you're prepared, you should be able to get the CFI's done in one month.
 
You don't have to put together any lesson plans on Instrument work right thats only if your going for your CFII. If I fly from the right seat the whole time will the check airmen let me sit right seat for my commercial ride?
 
Sure. You can take the COMM ride from the right seat. Of course, you want to brief the DE on why you're flying from that side.

Getting used to the right seat takes a bit fo time and if you can learn the commercial maneuvers this way, you'll have a great advantage in getting through the CFI stuff quicker.

Correct that you need not prepare instrument lesson plans, but most guys will knock out the three CFI's (CFI, CFII, MEI) together. Many programs will get all three done for a set price.

One thing to keep in mind about the CFI ride is that you need not be perfect, but be able to recognize errors, know why they happen and correct them. That's what you'll be doing as an instructor.
 
Most important thing to remember about the checkride, and the DPE or ASI should brief you on this, if that you are NOT being evaluated on your ability to FLY. You've already proven that you know how to fly by virtue of having a commercial cert. What you are being evaluated on is your ability to TEACH. You need to show that you can take information that makes perfect sense to you and transfer it to someone who has no idea what the hey-ho you are talking about, and get them to understand it in the end.

On the checkride, if you pooch up a maneuver just make it into a learning experience. "See? That's how NOT to do a steep turn." If you make a mistake, point it out and talk about why you made it.
 
You may be able to get the flying done (I think I checked after 12 hours of dual) and the signoff but scheduling the checkride is another matter, depending on the local FSDO. They have 60 days to get you a checkride and often they will take that long. It took 34 days to get mine sceduled. My buddy waited over a month before the FAA told him they could not do it and to use a DPE. Check into the examiner situation at the school you are going to see if your timeline is feasible.

Oh I forgot to mention does the school only have one complex airplane. If it does the airplane will always find a way to breakdown right in the middle of training or need an annual and set you back a few days to a few weeks. It happened to me three different times at three different schools (C-172 RG, Dutchess, Seminole)
