Cessna 421 to F-90 King Air

Next month I will be transitioning into the F-90 and would like to hear from low time pilots like myself (2200 and 650 multi) who have made the trans to similar equipment. We will operating part 91 with an approved school, one of the big three. My turbine experience is less than fifty hours but I am proficient in cabin twins.

Any tips or things to watch out for would be great!

I went from a BE-58P to the F-90, you will love it. Just enjoy the school, and listen to everything during your sim sessions. I flew the F-90 for ten years, flying a CE-525 now, which is even easier than the King Air. During my ten years in the F-90 ,I went to Flightsafety and Simuflite, Simuflite was better because of the ease getting there, and having dinning right there at the school. Take care.

Congratulations!

I stepped into the BE20 single pilot-Pt.135 with much less time than you (1300/500). I went to SimCom in Scottsdale. The King Airs were much easier to manage than any of the 300/400 series piston Cessnas I'd flown. Wait 'til you experience the thrill of being able to slow down AND get down.

Don't sweat it. I'm only an FO, but I was tranistioning from a BE58 to a C90B (including EFIS) with only 450 hours (and zero turbine experience). I went to BE200 school (with C90 differences) at SimuFlite and had no problems. The King Air is very stable, and the systems are straightforward. Good luck!!

I flew the F90 for about a year. I loved it. I flew the original F90 which had a lot of power below 10,000', but seemed to peter-out above that. But, compared to the C90 or even the 200, it climbed like a bat out of hell and could maintain 250 KIAS below 10,000' while straight and level...which was real helpful when operating in Class B airspace.

Life will be so much simpler now that you no longer have to worry about shock-cooling. The King Air's slow down real nice. When ATC tells you, "Maintain 180 knots to the marker" its no problem.

If I were to buy a King Air for my own personal use someday, it would be either the F90-1 or the 300.
