The C-17 can and does make it to FL410. Just not very often and not very early in the flight profile if the airplane is heavy. No big surprises there. We like to hang out at or below 350 though, so we don't have to hang the hose when the other guy is out of the seat, which can be for an extended time on some of the long flights we do.

Did you fly those Big Grey C-17s at CHS? If so what sqd were you with? I was in the 15th under Ltc C few years back, 98-00. Flying those little white jets (T-1As) now at Randolph. We probably know each other.
 
Hey Lifter,
If you figure out who HPaul3 is from his handle then you don't know him. He was at LTS during your tenure at CHS anyway.:confused:

I guess that sums it up for you. FL410 is almost never optimum for us unless we get very light, like around 320,000 pounds (basic empty weight is about 285,000 pounds). Like the others said, low to mid 30's is where we usually are.
