Here's a new one on me. A good friend who has a T-28C asked if I could give him a BFR in it. I have quite a bit of time in the aircraft both from the front and back seat, and have done take offs and landings from both, so I'm comfortable flying it. I'm qualified in every other respect, but I don't have the relatively newly required type rating for a NA T-28B/C.

If I'm not authorized to act as PIC can I give him
a flight review in it?

Mike-

FWIW - I'm 75% sure your good to go - as long as the guy your giving the BFR to is legal to be PIC.

Back in the 90's I knew an instructor that did a BFR in a J-2 (40 hp cub). The owner (guy getting the BFR) was current in the J2 but i know the instructor had never flown tailwheel. The owner used this paticular instructor as she weighed 100 pounds and this guy was big so the only option was to use this small instructor.

61.195:
(e) Training in an aircraft that requires a type rating. A flight instructor may not give flight training in an aircraft that requires the pilot in command to hold a type rating unless the flight instructor holds a type rating for that aircraft on his or her pilot certificate.

...and since 61.56 says (emphasis mine):
(a) Except as provided in paragraphs (b) and (f) of this section, a flight review consists of a minimum of 1 hour of flight training....
Would you not be giving flight training in an airplane requiring a type rating that you don't have?

Just to split hairs: is it really a type rating? Or is it an "Authorized Experimental Aircraft" that will be listed on your license?
