I'm trying to find my way to Brisbane Australia next month. I'm a pilot at a cass approved airline. Does anyone here know of any U.S. carriers that fly that way?
thanks

I suspect that the closest you will get to Brisbane on a U.S. carrier is to Sydney.

Brisbane is a pretty cool town. Spent a couple of days there about 10 years ago, and had a great time. The Australians are awesome.

Easiest way is to JS with UAL to Sydney and then use a Zed Fare ticket on Qantas. The return Zed on QF cost me US$68.

Make sure you pick a day when there are 2 flights heading out of LAX to Syd. Far better chance of getting on.

Thanks Kenny and KC-10. I didn't know about UAL and Sydney. So far I was thinking about trying a Zed fair from LAX to BNE but don't know how difficult that would be at this time of the year. Again thanks for the info.

I have done the trip to Australia many times and it is not easy. There are a lot of non-revs travelling between the US and Australia. The good news is that they are mostly buddy pass people who have very low boarding priority. There are no flights directly to Brisbane so your best bet is to JS to Sydney from LAX or SFO on UAL. Once there you can buy a ticket on Virgin Blue (Australia's LCC) which should be pretty cheap. Enjoy your stay in my homeland and have a Touheys for me while you are there. Cheers Mate.

Thanks Batplane. I'll check into UAL as the time gets closer. I was originally going to try a ZED fair on Quantas from LAX to Brisbane but those flights are looking kinda full already and its 3 weeks out. I thought I might have to fly into Sydney but wasn't sure how to go about getting from there to Brisbane afterwards. Seems like its easier to get to China these days :) .

Aussie!Aussie!Aussie!

I thought QF had one flight from LA to AKL that continues through to Brisbane. Either way don't get terrified if Qantas tells you there full. Remember it's 400+ seats so a 2% no show percentage means quite non revs have a good chance. If your airline has international js agreement with UAL you can ride them for free to SYD. That's how I did it.

Try jumpseating on Atlas to SYD.

I wasn't aware that they allowed international jumpseating.

Have you tried it or know someone who has?
