Hello
Does anyone have any insight to where the new hires are getting based? DFW or ATL?
I want ATL for QOL & Reserve job, just wanted to know if you can get it initally or if not how long to bid back. I am trying avoid commuting. Background checks are done and I am waiting for a DD-214 and a class date (hopefully July)
Thnx

If I can read an count correctly, from the final awards for 04-09, I interpolate:

16 DFW F/O CRJ (50 seater)
2 DFW F/O CR7 (70 seater)
2 ATL F/O AT7 (ATR-72)

The seniority numbers for the new hire class look like the start at 1,599 and go to 1,618. From what I can tell, the top 16 took the CRJ in DFW, the next 2 the CR7 in DFW, and the last 2 got the AT7 in ATL. But, every bid message people from recent classes get back to ATL on the CRJ. The most junior in this last award was seniority # 1,581. So it may only take you 1-2 months (whiel you are still in training) to get back to ATL if you get the CRJ in DFW.

I am in the class. Those numbers for awards are right on. I hope to get back to the ATL soon. I got the 50 in DFW.

BTW this is a top notch outfit. The training is well put together so far. They make you feel welcome and at home your first day in class.

You obviously have not been introduced to our scheduling department.

This is probably a dumb question and I appologize now for it, but why do so many want the 50 seater? Upgrade times short?

why the 50?

Remember, it is all about seniority. The 70 list is very senior on top and junior on the bottom. Only recently have some middle of the road guys bid over. (mostly because there just have not been that many lines to choose from and they did not feel that the QOL vs +$ was worth it) Scope puts a finite number on the 70's operated. The deliveries in '04 will finish that. As junior pilots bid or get assigned the 70 they of course will be at the bottom of the list. As a vacancy is posted there is the distinct possibility that a senior pilot will bid over effectivly "pinning" the junior guy to the bottom of the list. The only way off the 70 is to upgrade (not likely in the near future) or change domiciles). On the other side, if you are on reserve on the 50, not soon to get off of reserve why not make some more $$.

You can bid to upgrade from any right seat to any left seat, so no the initial assignment really does not effect the time it takes to upgrade. But, with the lack of Captain upgrades we are seeing some ATR and 50 seat FO's bidding to the CR7 for the additional money.

The junior upgrade will probably be DFW CR2, or ATL ATR. If you plane on upgrading on either it might be a good idea to fly the aircraft some as an FO first.

Dfw Vs Atl

I've been both ATL and DFW based for 18 months in both locations. I'm currently in ATL, and about to go back to DFW. If you want quality of life, more days off, better trips and generally less company induced (crew scheduling) stress I would say to bid DFW. I can only get ten days off a month in ATL vs. 15-16 in DFW. The people are generally nicer out there, drive much saner, and there is no state residency tax. Only real downside is DFW is a very HOT place all summer long.

Interview

Hey Guys,

First time logging on. I have an interview with ASA on the 21st. Anyone have any insight into what it's all about?

will fly for food kinda sucks. best gouge site if you havent already found it is www.aviationinterviews.com. i wrote a pretty extensive interview gouge about a month back along with a bunch of other people. check it out. dont worry about all the technical junk during the interview. they are mostly looking for folks with a good attitude and who want to be there for a while.
