Based on my longevity and pay today I recived in the mail notice that I've been awarded 38 shares of SKYW. That is around $940 at current prices, when it matures in 2009.

Who knows if there will be an ASA, or if I will be here in 2009? But still, neat!

Its nice to have a little good news for a change.

I would say it's a nice gesture, but a nicer one would be getting our contract done. Or replacing BL and company with some competent people. But yes, it was nice to get, assuming that we will be here in 3 years to claim it.

That didn't take long for the negative people to trash a good thing. I agree with Fins - this is a good thing. Some of you can't see any good in anything. Thanks Skywest, some of us appreciate it.

It is a start. I just want to support my family today!

This is a good point. Although a nice gesture, it does little for me if my child starves to death in between now and 2009 because they aren't willing to sign a reasonable contract now (3+ years late in my mind!). The old saying "I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today" comes to mind.

If your child is starving to death, then you better start doing something differently. How much of a raise are you expecting and how much of a difference is it going to make in how your child eats? I assume you are both FOs. It looks like the company and ALPA are about $3.50 apart on FO rates. If you split the difference, will $1.75 make the difference between "supporting your family" and "preventing your child from starving"? How about what the difference would be between upgrading and being stuck as an FO while our flying is lost to Skywest, and Chautaqua, and Freedom?

If you are so content with what ASA is currently paying you, why do you have a 737 type? They won't even admit we're getting 900's. You must be REALLY optimistic!

If something better comes along, I will leave. If not, this isn't that bad a gig. I just don't understand how a couple of bucks will make a difference in whether or not you child starves. Talk about melodramatic BS.

He has a 737 type because he's a management pilot and got one for free from Delta some time ago.

Wow, this from someone who blew what, 6-8 grand on a type he/she doesn't intend to use because "this isn't that bad a gig?" Wouldn't it be something if we could make this a "good gig" rather than just not "that bad a gig?" That isn't you JC, is it? (not the savior, the former E120 pilot) It's the sound of total defeat that's a bit disturbing to me, and should be for all your fellow pilots (and passengers for that matter!).

-Blucher:laugh:

Blucher says I blew 6-8 grand on getting it and anon says Delta gave it to me. You guys need to get your stories straight. At least you both are partly on the same page - you both side-stepped my original point and never answered how a couple of bucks will help provide for you families and feed your children.

Two things for you.

First, do you actually believe Blucher was being literal when he said his child would starve to death?

Secondly, why don't you clear the air about your 737 type rating then?

:rolleyes:Stiff, Driver does not want to say....I believe that he got it from Delta for FREE!! If $1.75 is not THAT big a deal, then why do they want us to take paycuts? Oh, I know, we NEED to stay competative! Talk about BS!

First, I am tired of people exagerating how bad it is here and talking about how this contract will make such a huge difference between being able to support your family or not. The fact is, if you can't support your family now, you won't be able to after the new agreement is signed.

Second, I paid for my type rating and it wasn't with Delta.

It isn't the $1.75 difference that is holding up the deal. It is the $100 hour 50 seat rate, 70 seat captain rates, and Bfund retirement that is holding it up.

;)Hey, FORGET the retirement. Give 4-5 dollars more per hour and I will invest it myself! As far as the "proposed pay," that is WHAT we DESERVE! Now whether we get it (which I don't think we will), is a whole different matter! According to my CPA, even if we got a 20% raise, we would not even keep up with the cost of living increases within the past 3+ years of negotiations.

Bottom line...We Deserve MORE!! Yeah, the "stock option" is a "Cute" offer, however, if I am still here in 09', I will DIE!!!!!:uzi: Does not do me any good RIGHT NOW! They need to get rid of our mgmnt and get this thing done pronto! Our pilot group IS NOT going to trust them anytime soon. They have done far too much(NOTHING) to DAMAGE their reputation with this group! JA and the boys have a LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG way to go before this pilot group believes ANYTHING they have to say....

Well, congratulations ASADiver, now take the meat out of your mouth and think about what you just said. The argument is really only over a few bucks, right? Wait, what has the company been saying about being "competitive?" Hold on, at the same time haven't they been wasting money in ways that heretofore have only been seen in government? Aren't DH's at an all time high? Aren't the cubible wars in the GO in full effect? Aren't there dept's still hiding ridiculous waste under "crew delay?" You are being drug tested like the rest of us aren't you? You don't get out of that just because you drive a desk do you? If you are clean, and you are actually there, day in and day out, how can you possibly not get mad that they want to take money from you to spend on hiding the REAL problems? Oh, wait....CP's aren't being asked for cuts are they? Sorry...this is the wrong argument isn't it? You paid for your type...which of course can only mean things are just so perfect at ASA that you wouldn't change a thing! You just love high priced, giant video games! Gotta ask again....don't you get drug tested too?

Thanks for the replies. I'll actually engage in a meaningful conversation with what you wrote.

I have already said in another thread that ASA is not all that bad a place to be. No, we are not in BK like Comair. We are not furloughing like TSA is while an alter ego whore benefits from it. However, ASA has alot of improving to do. We are consistently at or near then bottom in most DOT performance rankings every month, which shouldn't be acceptable, but it seems to be the norm for us.

You say that a few bucks won't make a difference, but I am being asked to give back close to $4,000/year with a 13% paycut as a 70-seat FO. I already make less than $40,000 and I refuse to give back money when we are profitable. CT said there would be no guarentee of growth even if we signed what management has on the table right now.

People say that the company only has it's shareholders to look out for. I say BULL********************. I believe that my company (ASA) and my bosses (BL, CT and SH) also have a responsibility to me as well. I, like most everybody else, including you probably, bust our ass for this company to keep planes and people moving as smoothly as possible, and yet I am asked to give back money.

It's not sitting well with me.

Hi, I'm earth, have we met??

This is not ALPAs final offer and everyone knows that.

This is giving them cushion to get mgmt out of a concessionary mode. As for the retirement, they know they won't get it and no, it isn't "holding it up" as you would call it. MGMT has all the open sections of the contract, and it is there move to make. They talk about being cost competitive...do you think 3 million dollars a year in savings (which is what there proposal saves) is going to miraculously make them competitive.

How is it that every "neutral" airline financial analysis shows us as the most competitive at OUR CURRENT RATES and mgmt's numbers show doom and gloom....THEN, when asked how they got the numbers, there response is "we can't divulge that information." NO CRAP...CAUSE THERE FULL OF IT.

FL990, you guessed IT! They don't want to show us those numbers because they would have to show us just how "underpaid" we are!!! If they NEED 3 mill a year savings, just fix those operational problems and WALAAAH!!

Hey mr reading challenged, did I not say it was a nice gesture, and that it was nice to get? I don't think that was finding a negative. I simply pointed out that a nicer gesture would have been getting out contract settled. I think that most of our pilots would rather have the contract settled rather than a stock grant that they may or may not be able to take advantage of.

Ok, lets split the difference and say $1.75/hour for the average FO. That equals about $1000 a year. I have been here going on 9 years, and I got 41 shares. That's a little less than $1000 in stock, that I can't touch until 2009, assuming that both I and the company are both still here. So that means that the average FO probably got halaf that amount. Now lets see here. Would the average pilot have $1000 more per year in compensation, or probably half of that amount 3 years from now? I know which I would rather have. Give me the compensation that I deserve and let me buy my own Skywest stock.

But again, it was a nice gesture. I appreciate JA for doing it. That doesn't mean that I don't wish he would do what it takes to fix this place.

9 years and only 41 shares? I think they are descriminating against the ATR folks. 7 years and 46 shares

It's based on the service ceiling of the aircraft you currently fly, or was it top speed?

You just don't get it.

The company is making RECORD profits.

Will $ 3.50 make the difference between "rapid growth" and "liquidation?"

Will paycuts guarantee growth so you can upgrade? Ask Comair.

You need a Kool-Aid antidote.....fast.

It's based on the highest altitude you've cruised at since DOH.. That's why I got 33 shares. That's why I'm gonna push hard for "four-one-oh, dude!"

So by that logic, when the company is operating in the RED, you'll be glad to give up your pay scale because after all, one hand washes the other right? :)

....tool.
