While they're at why don't they come down on tire outfits that advertise $59 for a tire that ends up costing you $90 out the door?
 
I think Spirit is an interesting experiment in exploring the limits of just what the free market will bear. It's clear that there is a segment of the traveling public that is so price sensitive that they will put up with almost anything (at least in the near-term), but it seems to me you can't build a world-beating company on unabashedly poor service and deceptive pricing. The question remains just how much Spirit can grow with this business model. Only time will tell, and I know our mgmt is taking them seriously.
 
I think Spirit has progressed past anything that could be called "experimental"
But still they are an airline that the press loves to hate. Spirit's website explicitly spells out all the optional fees that a passenger could be exposed to, but the press still cries deception. No airline can please everybody everytime. I suspect that the vast majority of complaints against Spirit come from people that expect all-inclusive at the non-inclusive price. Unfortunately for them Spirit nor any other airline offer that level of service at that price.
 
The management at Allegiant are truly ridiculous. The week that the law required them to include taxes and fees in their fares, they added a popup on their website claiming that the prices looked higher because they wanted to help their passengers understand where their money was going, not because the law forced them to.

Now this is on their website:
* Prices displayed reflect a debit card discount of $4 per segment, are per person and include taxes, carrier charges & government fees. Optional baggage charges may apply.

Now Allegiant's management is showing a $4/each way discount in the DISPLAYED FARES, but you only get that discount if you pay with a debit card, not a credit card. 99% of the people probably don't even notice that disclaimer, much less click on it and read it.

What are they going to think of next? Perhaps a $20 discount for being a Revolutionary War veteran included in their displayed fares that magically disappears when it comes time to pay...

Personally, I think Allegiant's management should be forced to pay back all the money they scammed from their passengers over the past 10 years.
