definitely looked like a twin otter to me... looked like it was going pretty fast too.

Partenavia. It was an airshow routine. The aircraft was being operated well outside of the manufacturers design limits and the pilots wife was narrarating when it happened. Poor woman. I forget where and when, probably happened in the mid 80's.

Search airliners.net for P68, they show about three pages of the type, but not this specific aircraft.

That video gave me the creeps! Thanks for sharing. Just the other day, I was speaking to the pilots in my unit and reminded them that what we do, althought fun, is still dangerous, and to be careful. I think this vid would have driven the point home.

Partenavia is correct, the pilot's name was Wes Winter. He was based at Falcon Field in Mesa, AZ. IIRC, the air show where he died was in Texas.

NTSB site is down right now, but I seem to recall that the aircraft speed was calculated from the video and found to be well beyond Vne.

After the clip (18megs) of the Korean 747-400 landing, does any one have infomation of the Aircraft ( homebuilt??) when the wings folded up in flight at the airshow and you will see the rest. Poor guy did not stand a chance........

Kind of an erie collection of clips, with the German music track and all making it even more "spooky."

Twin crash

We were shown the full video of that aircraft's demonstration in our Accident Investigation class. The aircraft was performing loops, rolls, and various other aerobatic maneuvers. Throughout the routine, the announcer (who happened to be the pilot's wife) repeatedly referred to the plane as "non-aerobatic." From what we were told, the aircraft was the pilot's design, and he was trying to get it type-certificated. There were FAA representatives watching the demo. The aircraft was performing for (if i remember correctly) about 10-15 minutes before that part of the video. At that point, the plane was just recovering from a dive, and had just been overstressed too much so that little bit caused the airframe to fail.

Hope that helps somewhat.

That was the hardest one to watch...wondering what it must've been like in the cockpit... [shudder]

Thanks guys,

Yes it does look like a Twinotter, but if you look at the tail section it has 2 horizontal tails at either side of the stab similar to a Aircoupe.

Maybe it looks like a Twin Otter to you, but it was definitely a Partenavia. I remember it well. It WAS being operated outside it's normal envelope, however this pilot had operated this aircraft in a similar routine many times at airshows without incident. I guess he rolled the dice one to many times. And the story of the pilot's wife narrating the airshow routine is also accurate.

any ideas why my winamp won't video screen only shows black while it's playing?

Are you streaming it or downloading it and then playing it? Usually, it works better if you download it and then play it off your harddrive.

Other thing is do you have windows media player installed? Sometimes it tries to hijack any WMA files being played (go M$!).
