Just wondering if anyone knows the upgrade time at Colgan. Also the quality of life and pay scales. I hear that they are expanding their routes and hiring a lot more pilots this coming summer. Getting ready to apply and just trying to find out as much info as i can. Thanks in advance

Upgrade is probably pretty quick as everyone is running away as fast as they can.

Do a search, you'll get a lot of info.

It varies depending on how much time you have. I am low time, so it'll take me a little while. However, I had a new guy on the jumpseat about 3 weeks ago, doing his observation flight. He was saying that they hired a bunch of higher time people so they could upgrade in about a year or so. I know we're short staffed now.

I've been here about 4 months. I'm on the Saab and not going to be commuting. For me, I've enjoyed it. QOL is ok for now and you'll work with some of the best people around. I don't deal much with HQ, so I can't comment there. So far so good, though.

Pay on the 1900 starts at $20.00 per hour and $21.00 per hour on the Saab. Per diem is $1.35 an hour, only if you overnight. Not that great, but it's a great chance to get your foot in the door and they will fly you. I had 97 hours of flight time last month.

Good luck in whatever you do.

I did. I'm not proud. At that time in my life, though, it was the best option. I thought about it long and hard and made my decision. I don't walk around bragging about the fact. I also don't walk around like a cocky a$$hole who thinks they know everything (not directed at anyone, just PFT Stereotype). I just come in, keep my mouth shut when I should, do my job, try to get along with everyone and go home. Simple as that. My foot's in the door. End of story. In hindsight, I probably wouldn't do it again. Do I condone it? No. Do I regret it? No. At the time, it just felt best for me. That's how I feel.

Options for folks who think that PFT or one of the $academy$ programs is their only choice:

1. www.flightexpress.com

2. www.airnet.com

3. www.ramairfreight.com

4. www.baron-aviation.com

5. www.aircar.com

There are other options.

Single-pilot, night freight. Good actual IFR experience, low approaches, real-world decision-making... all attributes that will make you valuable cockpit crewmembers rather than a detriment to the captains with whom you fly. Just my opinion.

See, now that's constructive.

Way to go for not just bashing the guy, Furloughed. Maybe there is a way to disseminate that useful info on this board for all those who are searching for info BEFORE they make a decision on wether or not to PFT.

upgrade is hard to predict, just like everywhere else. The fact that they do not upgrade
in seniority order makes it even harder to predict at colgan. Part of why they do not upgrade
in seniority order is because many people do not have a lot of flight time. They say
they want 2500TT and 500 in type to upgrade. Recently some people have been upgrading
between a year and a few months....to a year and a half. Some take longer due to all kinds
of different reasons. Saab captain upgrade is hard to predict because some slots go to beech
captains transitioning over. Beech upgrade is hard to predict because the beech fleet is
being downsized and beech captains sometimes transition over to the saab. And on occasion
captains and FO's quit that are junior to you. FO's quit on a weekly basis. 2 a week?? Not
really sure. I guess they have a few more saab classes going throughout the summer.
And what happens with usairways is probably the biggest question mark as well

I noticed Aircar's minimums are: Minimum requirements: Commercial Pilot, Airplane, multi-engine land, Instrument, multi-engine land. 1500 hours total time, 200 hours multi-engine, 75 hours actual instrument.

For that, you could get a job at a regional.

Upgrade time hard to say. I know some people that have been given many upgrade dates, but they keep getting pushed back and back and back. Its been almost 6 months since they were told they were gonna be in the next upgrade class and the date keeps getting changed.
