OK, so I just got back from a trip and I'm a commuter and both legs to and from the crew was all female. I'm talking about both a mainline flight and an Express. Not that there's anything wrong with it, I was just kind of surprised! I thought the ratio of female pilots was pretty low but it seemes to be growing.
Here is a question though. With the economy getting back to normal and the majors possibly doing better and hiring in the next few years, do airlines (especially the majors) still preferentially hire women over men? Are there still quotas for them to fill? If so, I think we're in a hurt if there are more and more women flying and also they will be the first to get the jobs.
This is not meant to be inflamatory toward any women. I've flown with a few and they've all been great pilots. They seem to try harder than a lot of male pilots I've flown with.
But I'm just wondering about the future jobs out there.
Any insights?
