Airtran sure is trying to avoid Southwest. BWI is one of Southwest's hubs, and each of the cities Airtran is going to is not served by Southwest, except SEA. Could SW start nonstop BWI-SEA service? Sure. But they won't fly it as an allnighter eastbound like Airtran will. I bet they will add a flight. Regardless, good move for Airtran. You might as well beef up service to cities not served by Southwest at BWI.

Southwest does have direct service from SEA to BWI. Flight 1066 leaving at 8:45 and flight 1815 leaving at 3:30.

Nonstops? No, SWA does not serve BWI-SEA nonstop (referencing www.southwest.com schedule info for March and April).

Direct? Yes. Two to three direct flights per day BWI-SEA, with about half a dozen more connecting possibilities as well.

(Remember "Direct" means same plane and same flight number with a stop or two *or three!* on the way).

Straight from the mouth of Joe Leonard and Bob Fornaro:

"We will not deliberately go head-to-head with Southwest in any market. There is just NO profit in TWO LCC's starting a fare war when there are PLENTY of other good markets to choose from."

We may go into the same cities, but very rarely do we have the same NONSTOP CITY PAIRINGS as Southwest.

BWI-SEA sounds great for people who live in the Northeast.

This route doesn't say anything about seasonal service to Seattle, so can we assume this is a year round route. Also does anyone know if the ATL-SEA route will become yearly once they start it back up again?

We had a BWI-SEA non-stop on Saturdays a couple years back. Didn't last very long if IIRC.

Maybe SWA was worried Alaska would jump all over that. Oh wait, we don't go anywhere without overanalyzing it for five years and then don't go because it's not profitable OR SWA is all over it. You guys will be back.
