yay 5 years of stagnation!!!!

Hope the age 65 lovers actaully enjoy it...while the rest of us suffer.

"but some had their retirements canned"....they all say. Something tells me that if you were making six figures for over 20 years and you don't have your act together now for retirement, you don't deserve a second chance that hurts those of us that will never even have anything to loose.

It may come as a great surprise that this is not about YOU.

This legislation is the long-overdue legal remedy for a long-standing inequity that prevents qualified people from continuing to earn a living without arbitrary discrimination.

You are not being left out. You Too, will have the opportunity (option) to work 5 more years! From your posts, and being the great financial planner in your own mind that you are, You can probably retire when you are 45!

It's over with, the water is under the bridge, don't look back; the Bill passed unanimously in both the House and the Senate.

It's not all about YOU! I am no where near even age 60, but I respect the men and women who helped build this industry and earned "what's left of the labor contracts" that you and I get to enjoy! They should enjoy the same retirement age as everyone else in this country--should they so choose!

2008 is definitely going to be the year I take the LSAC.

So then braniac how is 65 not discrimination?

Good question. Age 65 is actually the benchmark set for retirement when the social security system was implemented. Until now, it applied to everyone, except pilots. It is the law and in addition customary and well accepted. Now pilots are no longer given arbitrary, disparate treatment to that benchmark.

One rule that applies to all!

Prater and company worked so hard to defeat the change, they couldn't get a single vote in the Senate. Either ALPA is thwarting the will of the union or it is completely ineffective. Why shouldn't the regionals decertify ALPA?

I guess you missed the campaign. The law was going to change--no matter what position ALPA took. ALPA changed it's position (with the Board and Council approval) so that ALPA could have input into the rulemaking. Smart Political moves were made.

ALPA will not be decertified by any regional. I would wager on that.

If you contributed to ALPA's PAC, you helped pull the trigger.
I proudly contributed to ALPA-PAC (Capital Club member), and even though I disagreed with ALPA's change in position on this issue, I don't regret giving to the PAC. This is but one small issue in a sea of pilot-related issues that must be dealt with in Washington.
