Just spoke w/ HR at a USAir carrier and she wants an interview date!

Questions: firstly, should I anonymize my name here or do people really care? should gouge research at aviationinterviews.com be kept quiet or again does HR care? although I am eager, I am not desperate...how should I play this? and finally, the school had us in uniform, is this appropriate for interview or would I rather business attire? if uniform, include school brass and cover?

Thanks to All,

Adam.

Yes, definintely wear the uniform and cover- that way they'll already know you're a qualified "Flight Deck Crewmember". Maybe they'll offer you the LHS, being as you have all that brass already...

Hey Adam congrats on your interview.
Follow the gouges just don't believe if they say about be yourself.
Remember US companies want you to be what they want and not yourself be quiet polite among other things never I said never let HR know you got gouges even after you passed on interview.
follow the gouges be calm put nice attire don't need to be new but clean and ironed.
Good luck and let me know how it was.

GOD Bless you

Worst piece of advice I've ever heard

Hey Mcafee,

Glad to hear you finally finished TAB. Don't worry about names, it's a small world here....somebody knowes you anyway. People said you went off the deep end....what's up with that?

Howz your Bro?

Dude, please don't wear your uniform to the interview, you will be laughed right out of the building. It's an interview wear a suit. Good luck.

I can't wait to wear a uniform! I'd wear it to the interview if I was you, it shows the interviewers that you are a professional pilot.

There are a few people here having fun at your expense. Definitely do not wear a uniform. A navy blue suit is preferred with a conservative tie and a white shirt. However, other dark suit colors would be just fine. It looks like you need to read a few interview books and possibly seek some professional advice. You can do so from pilots that you trust, or from companies such as Air Inc (www.jet-jobs.com). Good luck with the interview.

Yeah, don't tell us who you are Adam McAfee. And please wear your uniform, it shows how much better than the rest of us you are. And it gives the non-dork white males a fighting chance. Was that too harsh?

Thanks for the positive word from most of you. The rest I'll just wait for a face-to-face. This interview a first of its kind for me I appreciate all the help I can get.

ASH: deep end? nooo, that's just how we do things here in California! No, seriously, PM me with details, rumors of ones own are always fun. I'll be back in Deland in a few to finish up some sim time, after that I guess i won't need my TAB brass anymore...

...did I here...

...Ebay?

And before anyone gets their panties in a bunch I wan't the record to show that I signed onto the TAB program when it was a Part 61 operation, long before the days of the great PFT sin that the shamen of flightinfo feel they need to save us from.

Last thought: still wondering why nobody here has the balls to use their real name? Maybe "Propsync" can tell me...

Hey there,

Why does it have to be a white shirt?

I personally prefer a nice pressed blue one?! With my nicely dry cleaned and pressed navy blue suit.

I think that the image to go for is conservative, neat and well presented, smart hair cut, buffed shoes.

Basically as if it was your first day at work.

Talk clearly and answer what they ask and do not go off on some diatribe.

Jeez folks, give the kid a break.....

Do not wear your uniform. Buy a suit, shirt and tie (off the rack at Penney's is fine) and a new (cheap) black briefcase. Buy and read the books "Sweaty palms" and "Airline Interviews" (name?) by Irv Jasinski. Be pleasant, eager and smart. Spin any negatives into a "but I learned ......" positive. Use the gouge to prepare and if they ask, admit to having done some research and gotten a little gouge (it shows you really want the job). Do not lie, period.

As for names here, I'd say not, just because that's not the format. If you're around long enough the people who need to will figure out who you are from your posts. I'd bet real money that HR people don't lurk here to get the inside scoop on you, at least none you'd probably want to work for.

Good luck.

By the great Mr. McAfee

Uh, yeah, got the answer for you tough guy:

Most of us don't take ourselves too f****n seriously. Relax, flying is fun!

Hey buddy, don't think you're gonna soften your condescending remarks w/ a "flying is fun". Maybe i should remind you this is the Aviation Interview Board and my post pertains to specifically that. So Propdink, if you can't keep with the intended nature of this board then go find the romperoom forum.

To the rest: thanks again for the notes.

Tony - dead on as usual, and funny as h*ll, thanks! :D

Minus - If you're going to interview at a company that values creativity and individuality (SWA, jetBlue), then by all means wear whatever shirt color suits your fancy. However, if you're going to a major flag carrier (or an express carrier of the same), they tend to like at least the appearance that you're just going to blend in and be like everyone else - standing out "visually" is usually not such a great thing - you want to stand out because of your attitude, experience, and ability.

As far as admitting to gouge - again, it depends on the airline. Some HR people get REALLY torqued that there is any gouge out there and automatically discredit anyone who admits to using it thinking that they're not seeing the "real" person, but one put on to fit the gouge. Other HR departments don't really care. Can't speak much to any of the US regionals, maybe someone else?

But the person who said to never, ever lie at an interview was exactly right. You can sugar coat bad things a little to help put a positive spin on them, but lying will get you canned, even if they learn about the lie after you're on the line.

Good luck.
