Ok, I always hear people talk about a REAL airplane, a plane that will make you a good pilot and that not just anybody can jump in and go.

For me the best I have flown till now is the BE76 Duchess. Quite a handfull I thought but many people think the Baron is harder to fly - more of a REAL airplane.

What do you think is a REAL airplane? A Baron? I hear the Aerostar is hard to fly too.

I think a Cub is a REAL airplane! But whatever floats your boat.

I climbed in my Bonanza with less than 100 hours in a C172 and took off w/o a problem. It felt like putting on a well made glove.

My 340 though was a handful in the first couple of hours, but after a week at FlightSafety, it became easier.

I understand why my insurance company required the 40 hours of dual.

Convair 5800!!! Too much power!

Naw, weight until you get in a Lear 24 to see what real power is like, never forget the first time bringing the power levers up on my first takoff, it throws you back into the seat pretty hard, talk about fun, not really a tough plane to fly though, just fun as hell.

I agree with the guy above that said a Cub or Super Cub is a REAL plane.

Hey, for a turboprop a 5800 is pretty dern good.

The biggest I have flown was the Catalina PBY5A, with the Wright Brothers engines (1600Hp If I remember correctly) THAT was a handful to fly, noisy, greasy, but so FUN!! no flaps doh...I was co-piloting for an airshow in SUA last year, spent the night with a C-130 crew from the South Carolina National guard, beers after beers after beers....had a blast during that weekend.

Sounds great! How'd you land that one??

I'll qualify mine by saying that everything I've flown is "real".

My picks from the ones I've flown are as follows:

Globe Swift-short coupled taildragger with a big engine on a crosswind day
Pitts S-2A-see above description
Lear 24/25-lots o' power!
T-6/SNJ-5-big 'ole taildragger with a round engine and narrow gear
Cub/Champ-energy management with big wing, light weight
Beechjet-no ailerons

I disagree the BE-76 is a easy flying plane on 1 or 2 engines. Deffinitly not a handful.
