What it comes down to is... guys like you have had an exemption so to speak. Whereas the legacy guys and FedEx pilots who have A, B and/or C plans have been paying dues on their gross income... the regionals or 401k only pilots, like yourself have not.
How dare you compare me to a FedEx pilot with an A and B and/or C plan? A FedEx Cpt is earning over 200 grand and the fo's are over 100 grand! Plus their A and B fund at retirement. They will do just fine. I only have a 401K and earn a mere fraction of what they earn. I am in a fight for survival to put a roof over my head and food in my family's mouth. And you have the audacity to talk about fairness? You must be making money hand over fist to say something luike that to me!

Wrong.
The USAPA guys simply took advantage of the current situation.
The USAIR guys have been hammered and pounded for years. Understandably they were quite frustrated. The USAPA guys simply took hold of a simple human dynamic: Change only occurs when the pain of the status quo is perceived to be greater than the change.
ALPA is a pilots redheaded step child. Never liked but always around to beat up. The gov't and our companies don't care. And they won't give a pilot 2 sec of time. ALPA at least has to pretend to care... therefore ALPA will listen to pilots complain. But it wasn't enough for the USAIR guys... they had enough of mergers, bad management, 9/11, BK..etc... The only one around to beat up was ALPA... and when ALPA didn't make it all better they went in house...
Don't confuse that with unity...
Yeah, unity around a despicable cause is really a great thing.![]()
I don't see how ALPA needs any defending....
Depends on who you ask. USAPA does not fit your agenda apparently.Yeah, unity around a despicable cause is really a great thing.![]()
Using the FedEx pilot is actually in your favor.
I've been furloughed 2x and displaced 2x since 2000. the last seven years have not been fair. I just choose not to be emotional about it all...
I am actually on your side on this... the thing of it is... you have no comprehension of what is going on here.
Spare me the emotional tirade. Take a nap. Think. Listen. Act.
In other words, you have nothing. Thought so.
no, I read the thread...I just don't see how not paying dues is going to make the situation better. If you, instead of starting the campaign to get everyone to stop paying dues, started a campaign to get all of those people to call their status reps and tell them emphatically to vote no, the vote would probably fail by a large margain. By not paying dues to our union, all you would be doing is weakening our position and putting yourself at risk for termination.Come on man, don't make me waste my time in responding to such a stupid question. You obviously didnt read the thread. This is about our illustrious union trying to subject our 401k contributions to our dues. If that happens I am through paying these clowns that purport to represent me when all they do is make the big wigs rich and don't do anything to at least hold our earning power steady. We are losing earning power each and every year, and these jokers continue to let it happen by sticking their heads up managements keisters!
I'm going to disagree with you that the USAPA situation is anything even resembling unity at a pilot group. They have a union right now who's sole reason for existance is to reorder a seniority list stapling aound 40% of their pilots. They have shown almost NO desire what-so-ever to even involve the West pilots in their union. When they got elected, they have around 70-80 committee volunteers and only asked for THREE of them to be staffed by West pilots. Say what you want about ALPA, but at least ALPA doesn't make it a blanket policy to represent pilots in only certain domiciles.Their unity is what made it work. Unity is what gives unions their strength. I'd be thrilled if other pilot groups showed that kind of common commitment.
Fighting for your career a despicable thing?? I don't think so.
