Just a quick question. I have heard that whenever a controller issues a "go direct to..." it is noted and there is some benefit to the controllers for this. It was never elaborated what the benefit was - retirement points, kudos, who knows? Is this true?
First off, it is not Maurice, it is Maury.
Second off, no problem waiting until May 1st - and I am "really happy."
Third off, had my share of dealing with ALPA. They offer some good things that we won't have but at a big cost. With their coming payout, of course, they want our dues...
So by your reasoning, those pilots at carriers in bankruptcy should have resigned rather than accept "bottom of the barrel rates". By accepting those imposed rates, they have done more to lower the profession than those of us who hired on for higher rates.
Not me. I purposely avoided applying at those industry leading companies and only applied at LCCs whose stated purpose was to bring down the industry. There, I've said it and I feel free. I had no desire to work at a company with good pay and good schedules and instead concentrated on those...
Like Daytonaflyer said, the reserve life is pretty good....IF you live in base. I have worked the least I have ever worked. If I was still commuting, life would have been hell.
As far as financing more airplanes, I think if they came available, the management team we have would be able to...
Well before it was "preferred" at G4, I was jumpseating on Delta and we landed flaps 28. When I asked the captain about it, he said the company saves fuel that way. I think he said it was about 280 pounds. They also used flaps 25 prior to gear extension.
And Delta has a lot more experience...
In November, I had 4 overnights and my wife was mad. She has gotten used to me being home every night and not off on 4-5 day trips. I have a new relationship with my kids since they see me all the time and not just for 2-3 days between trips.
Is the compensation less than at major airlines...
We had people in our class who found a place using Craig's list. I went in with 2 other people and we rented a vacation home (VRBO.com). It came out to about $800 for each of us and we needed a car (at least one cause we carpooled) but had 2 available.
If you find a house that is available...
Management does work with us. These numbers are without a union. Management does not want a union and with continual increases like this, neither do I.
Still looking at a good number of pilots to the end of the year and more growth beyond that.
This is a good place to lay my hat - oops, we...

Would prior pilots that interviewed recommend professional prep? or just prep yourself, study and prepare as hard as you ever had, and just be yourself?
Why would you want to ask prior pilots? Don't you want current information?
With 3 new bases opening up and newhires filling in, it should be no problem to get whichever base you want. Captain upgrades should be coming from both LAS and SFB.
As far as a place to stay. They will contact you and ask if you are willing to have your name and number distributed to the others in the class.
I got together with 2 other people and we rented a 3-bedroom house fairly close to the schoolhouse. I believe the site was vacationrentals.com...
When I interviewed within the last year, it took about 3 weeks to get an answer after the interview (some people were much less). They tried to give you enough time for two weeks notice.
Some schedules are commuter friendly but reserve schedules (which you would probably have out of LAS) are...
1. Possibly right away. They are expanding the FL bases (or so the word goes). If not, a short time in LAS until a class or two is behind you and upgrades have cleared the way to move.
2. Depends on the number of lines vs. reserve. Currently 6 lineholders and 2 reserve in PIE. With more...
I didn't have any internal recs. I knew one person there but had never flown with him so he couldn't give me a rec. Just kept sending in my resume and it crossed the right desk at the right time.
To those hired, welcome aboard and thanks for moving me up the seniority list.
