Maybe we as a group can learn something that will help us from the major upset in the industry.
When the majors were paying so well, it was ok for most to become a "slave" for awhile to build time. The plug has been pulled. IMO, there will be no to very little upside to this profession...
If the new TA at UAL goes through, it may pay to jump ship....even for some in the upper 3rd. I'm just talking about actuall pay. On another note, the "dream job" that it was will no longer be. It will just be another flying job that pay's the lowest in the industry and has crappy working...
Rightrudder,
"UAL is certainly paying us back well for being so loyal."
UAL doesn't even see their own as loyal...pilots, f/a's. management etc. They are going for the jugular everywhere. This will spread over the entire industry even if you are not tied to a major. There is no way to stop it...
ANDY, When you refer to "greedy SOB's" I hope you mean some of the folks running the show. Perhaps some of the pilots would fit the bill (by drinking the coolaid), but most are just working for a paycheck and want their company to do well. As pilots, we have no control over our managements...

IMO, I think the plan was flawed to begin with and couldn't believe they were buying it. That's why I made that comment. Of course the article seems to say that fuel price is the culprit (and in may be true) and who would have guessed that oil was going that high?
V2+10, Good points. It's easy for so many to predict what they want from the privacy of their computers. The sentiment about the low pay though, I share. I feel like it's, score one for your airline but minus one for your profession. I have absolutely no hate for your airline. I hope you...
What is an LCC and what is not will blur as we head into to future. Traditional carriers will have LCC routes to some destinations and LCC airlines will charge premium rates where they can on int. routes.
King Kong,
Your statement, " ...the management is right, the pilots going into the 190 will be making more over the year then any other new hire based on a rapidly needed upgrade." make me think.
You should never accept a wage structure that depends on rapid growth to get an acceptable...
You are worth what you can get. Seems like pilot groups have been seeing what they can't get lately. We don't do to well as a group, often seeing the quick upgrade over the long term gains.
"Those are in fact the new rates. Read it and weep.__________________
Along for the ride!!!! Woooohoooo...................... "
B6Busdriver,
Read it and weep? Do you realize that you didn't score anything for the profession? You shoot and your own feet and think you are going somewhere? Not...
Good point VC10. I saw UAL made the news today with some very high load factors. They just give the airline wide numbers though and don't separate out TED.
Why is it that some of you take the time to express doubt that TED might be doing ok? It's not likely that any of us actually have the facts as I'm sure UAL keeps it in close. It looks like some of us are scared of TED? I'm not certain why.
Happy 4th!
Mugs,
I agree with you and I think that was well said. There are those of us on the forum who don't want United to get the loan thinking that will help the position of the airline we work for. This thinking may be flawed though because it doesn't look like UAL is going to sink.
If they...
I was quite interested in getting one last year and researched them well. Bottom line, only purchase a Riley Rocket one that has been maintained well....nothing else. The reason I didn't get one is because it didn't have the space I wanted.
