787 divert "there was no fire in the aft electrical equipment bay"

Rumor has it that it was basically the same problem as the test 787 had that diverted into Laredo. An electrical panel was burned through. ANA supposedly is having the same problem.

Southwest taxis past me while I roll out on landing

Had one taxi past me in FLL, at least 60 knots, no exaggeration! Taxied behind him to the runway at my usual 20, he was number three for takeoff, I was four. My First and I couldn't believe it.

    CAL rumors......

Was in ground school the other day. Chief pilot came in and I asked about recalls. He said a bid is coming out shortly and it will be flat, no recalls. We will be doing Sao Paulo daily out of IAH along with a daily Rio starting in June. Frankfurt starts in November, LAX-Hnl switches to a...

    What's with the Dogs!

What is with the dogs in the cabin? I flew a Fort Meyers turn the other day out of Newark. Older lady gets on with a mangey looking little dog on a leash. Proceeds to walk into first class and sits down in first class. Dog has a service animal blanket on. What kind of a service animal is a...

On NPR - What makes a good airline pilot

Rumor has it that when Nance was at Braniff they banished him to the F.E. seat due to his inability to upgrade. Also heard the same about him when he was at Alaska.

    CAL History question

Got the message from the union last night, no new bases. No Florida or LAX base for right now, might be explored again in the future. The loads I have been flying have been terrible. I really don't see any growth for awhile.

CO 737 off runway in DEN

Know the Captain, used to be my copilot. My guess is strong crosswind, plane weathervaned, lost control and noise and rattling were runway lights being taken out prior to going into the ravine. Hope thats not the case but..... They just finished a long 4 day trip and this was their last leg...

    UAL/CAL one step closer

One of our most despised Captains. I have yet to meet a copilot that enjoys flying with her.

UAL 747-400 Parked in Mojave Desert!

CAL does not want United, just pieces after it shuts down, heard this from a lot of suits.

Delta to Replace RJ's with mainline jets for new growth.

Absolutely correct, why do you think no one else is flying in these markets. There is no traffic to support this type of flying and the economy overseas is collapsing. The oil market in Africa and political unrest makes these destinations uneeded.

    CAL/UAL .....again...and fearful

United Airline's pilots deserve what they get. Their kharma is coming back to haunt them. Neighbor of mine is a 72 year old retired United Captain. Told me the company has been self destructing for years, even while he was there. He and his wife were vacationing in London this summer and were...

    CAL/UAL .....again...and fearful

United will be parted out, CAL will codeshare and get first dibs on routes etc. Everytime I have a UAL pilot on the jumpseat all they do is complain about their company, it must be really bad.

    Cal System Bid

Ah, the airline industry. One day your a Captain, the next you are back to being a First. One day you're a First, the next day you are back on the street. This cycle has repeated for years, you pray it doesn't hit you, but be prepared if it does. Good luck to those heading out the door, I...

    Hollywood Aircraft

1979, right after Grease came out. I was sitting at the Burbank FBO and in walks Travolta, girls behind the counter go crazy. His Citation get pulled up and away he goes. About 1980, I'm taxing out of Hughes on the west side of 19R in Las Vegas. In the runup block is this big ole Jetstar and in...

    Continental's Fleet Plan

They are currently looking at the ATA aircraft, but they do want Boeing to spend the money to do the galleys and interior. Big problem is that there are no Continental seats to be had. Lead time is about 14 months for new seats. Will see how they work around that one.
