Hey Guys,
I'm an old military guy who has a great flying job (SWA). I have a nephew who is considering an aviation career and would like advice as to how to go about getting his training.
I'll bet it's probably been beat death already a thousand times, but I'd like to hear opinions about how...
From the SWA Newsline, Friday, 9 Jan 04:
"We anticipate resuming interviews for hiring in March of this year. The pool will be exhausted in mid-spring with the forecasted classes. As you know, our on-line application site will open Monday, January 12. Our People Department recruiters and staff...
I've always believed you should learn something new on every flight, but this one really surprised me - never seen this in 27 years of flying.
The fellow who flew as my co-pilot the other day was taught to trim the rudder in the slip on a crosswind landing - as opposed to holding the pressure...
The process continues!
Just got a FEDEX package from Jan Ruley for a background update (NDR, PRIA, FAA records request, etc).
The form letter states:
"At this time Southwest Airlines does not have any Pilot new hire classes scheduled for the remainder of 2002. We will periodically...
Spoke with Linsey today. Here's what she told me:
Confirmed no new hire classes in 4th qtr.
18 new jets in '03 and 10 - 737-200 retirements - for a net 8 jet increase.
60-70 pilot retirements in '03.
Still staffing 11 pilots per airplane.
Asked how many classes out I was. LL said "worst...
Scenario: Part 135.
Ops Spec (C077) “Terminal VFR, Limitations, and Provisions” allows for VFR in terminal area (with requisite weather).
Ops Specs (A010) “Aeronautical Weather Data” authorizes weather reports and forecasts in IFR operations which are prepared by the National Weather...
Well, here's the latest from SWA. Note below that for FY 2002 load factor is 62.9% (70.2% for Mar) so far. Will that be enough for SWA to post a profit in 2nd QTR FY '02? My fingers are crossed!
I know somebody was asking about Midway's CRJ200's that were parked after the bankruptcy. Here's the latest and greatest courtesy of the 18 mar issue of AW&ST:
Anyone in training at SWA:
Does the hotel used for new hires in training have an ethernet connection or do you use a dial up?
I'm spoiled here at home with a cable modem.
I was wondering if I'll need to sign up for a dial up modem connection while at the hotel.
And, if that is the case...
Any SWA guys,
If anyone knows JM's last name and how to spell it correctly, could you send me a PM with the spelling?
In Deference to JM I didn't think it was appropriate to put it out here for the world to see.
Thanks
Interviewed 7 Jan 02
Decision Board 20 Feb 02
JM called 22 Feb 02 @ 1620 EST (a day and time I"ll never forget)
I'm In! Still in shock!
Hey Mike, make room for me on that list!
Hey guys, stop holding out on us. I need a fix. Somebody post something about SWA. I need a constant infusion of SWA information to satisfy my addiction.
On another note, is it just me or have you noticed that since your SWA interview, time has seemed to slow to the unbelievably slow pace of...
SWA interview in January. Thought I'd shoot the load and give it my best shot. I've heard there's a former SWA interviewer who provides a prep session for the interview. Does anybody know who this is and how to get in touch with him/her?
Spoke with Lindsey Lang at SWA today. Lindsey says interviews should resume in Feb, MAYBE earlier. They will start back up with those who were previously scheduled for interviews.
