Reason it wasn't a pink slip
I need to clarify something...
When I say T-storms were approaching the area, I mean they had a little while to go before hitting the airport. About 1 hour. We were never in a position of danger.
In the not-so-exact words of the examiner, we would've been about...
So, I took my 5 hour ORAL for the CFI checkride and PASSED!
After lunch we get in the airplane and taxi out.
Right as we're approaching the runup area, the examiner suggests that continuing the checkride could be a bad idea. There are these three huge thunderstorm cells closing in on the...
Checkride on 9/11
Well, the feds must not be too concerned about GA.
The FAA originally had my CFI checkride scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, 2002. Scottsdale FSDO.
In the long run, I ended up scheduling the ride on Tuesday with a Designated Examiner (I've heard too many horror stories...
Okay, here's a question for you. I'm 99% sure of the answer, but wanted to throw it out.
I take my CFI checkride next Tuesday (week from today) and I currently possess a 3rd class medical. It used to be a 2nd class but downgraded to a 3rd just recently.
Now, the FARs state I must have at...

Thanks for the Great Responses!
I also love DUATS but sometimes feel a little guilty about using it!
I plan on placing strong emphasis on the good old fashioned E6B. The visual of the wind plotter is a lot nicer than a calculator.

This question is for those involved in single pilot freight ops, 121, 135, or anything else commercial for that matter!
Do you ACTUALLY go through the same long process of flight planning as you were once taught as a student?
I'm referring to planning TAS, cruise performance, time to climb...
Chandler Air Service? I highly doubt it!
John Walkup (owner of Chandler Air Service and highly respected D.E.) would never run a shoddy operation like has been described here. Top notch place.

I can't remember where I saw this (probably my recent issue of AOPA), but 85,000 comes to mind.
Now, whether or not all of those 85,000 are active is another question.
Hope this helps. That number is a little discouraging for those of us are, or in my case, hope to be CFIs making a living...
Thanks All!
Thanks everyone for the sage advice and other comments!
I've never given thought to stopping what I'm doing. I just wanted to have a better grasp on the whole timeline issue going from instructing to majors.
Thanks again! What a valuable resource! This so called "internet."...
I'm curious if this is going to put me at a disadvantage.
Now, assuming I instruct and then go to a commuter, will I still be at an age that many major airlines prefer?
I've heard the stories about other people that were hired past their 40's. These stories always start off "I know a guy...
Question...
I'm about to start my CFI training at one of these two FBOs located at Glendale Muni (GEU). I would eventually like to go on to work at one of these two places.
Is there anyone here familiar with these two? I'm curious which one might keep very busy. I've rented at Glendale...
I'll Be Using an Apache
Thanks everyone for the advice. It's greatly appreciated!
I'll be using an Apache for my checkride. I've been studying the POH religiously, so I shouldn't have a problem with systems. I do need to double check how the nose heater gets its fuel. Great question!
I'll...
Any last minute advice for someone about to take his multi commercial checkride?
I'm doing my multi comm BEFORE my single comm, so I'm aware that there will be more involved.
Incidentally, I'm taking my checkride with John Walkup in Chandler, AZ. Anyone familiar with him? Tips?
Nervous in...
