Tell me about a good Wichita hotel for Flight Safety

I stayed at the Best Western, but had lunch at the Hilton most every day. (I had my own car) The BW was ok, but for the same price....I'd rather stay at the Hilton.

    Anyone own a Nanchang Cj-6?

Mrs. G won't let me have one. She says "nothing that flies upside down"... LOL There's a couple of them at our field and I'd like to have one as a toy to take out on a pretty Saturday afternoon. Had it not been for the one that spiraled in off the end of the runway (while doing...

How the hell does this happen?

It was an MD80 according to the article, and passengers were out walking their dogs anyway....they didn't need stairs brought to them.

    Uhm....yeah.

How the hell does this happen?

I guess I started a flame war here, when all I wanted to know is how in the hell can there be a situation where someone allows a plane to sit out on the tarmac that long before even the captain gets sick and tired of waiting and does something about it. I told my wife when I was watching the...

How the hell does this happen?

This maybe old news, but this morning on the CBS Morning News, they interviewed a couple who are part of a group trying to get some "passenger bill of rights" passed in Congress after flying on AA and being held on the tarmac in Austin TX (after being diverted for Wx) for 9 hours, supposedly...

    divorce corner

Mine was 5 years ago next month. After 21 years of marriage, my ex-wife decided she liked the 26 y/o guy who'd been remodeling our house for the prior 3 years. I've been remarried for a couple of years now and couldn't be happier. It was an interesting experience for me. My ex-wife did me...

    Cessna 310

Yeah...that's what I meant about the "for awhile" comment. It was a kind of a shocker for me this afternoon when I bent down and looked under the wing while pre-flighting it and saw them for the first time. I've never seen silver stacks before. Hung Start.... I know what you're talking...

    Cessna 310

That was rumored and I was warned about the possibility when I bought mine. I had to get the exausts overhauled. The stacks sure look pretty though.....(for awhile anyway).

    Cessna 310

I just had it done on my 340 (every 12 years/can't remember the hours) while doing the annual this year. Spent $4500 on it. Did the test flight with a mechanic about an hour ago as a matter of fact. (I make it a practice to take one of the mechanics up on the first flight following an...

    Some thoughts from a controller

I don't fly professionally, nor do I burn kerosene, but I'm not a student pilot and I do my best to be as professional as the guy wearing the funny stripes on his shirt is. And I'll go out of my way to make your job easier too. But do some of you guys have to seek revenge by mocking us on the...

I spent time to log in just to read that?

    future wife doesn't understand

I don't fly for a living, but I told the perfect woman (my wife now) a couple of years ago after we met that if she couldn't handle flying with me.... Our relationship wasn't going to get off the ground. No woman is worth giving up flying for....not even the "perfect" woman.

VFR travel in midwest at Christmastime with baby - bad idea?

Agree 100% with your post. I'm not going to argue with you one bit. I was actually exaggerating to make a point the other way that my 340 (only plane I own right now) can handle ALOT more Wx than I'll ever be comfortable flying in. That's all. If you haven't read many of my posts, then you...

VFR travel in midwest at Christmastime with baby - bad idea?

Good advice but..... don't get lulled into thinking that just b/c you have an instrument rating, that you're "good to go" anytime. It's one thing to have the rating, and another to be a GOOD instrument pilot in a rental airplane on top of that. I've had my instrument for several years and own...

Pinch me, I must be dreaming...

Two things I don't share: My wife and my airplane. UNintentionally shared my first wife once.... Couldn't been happier about that one now. But if somebody does the same thing with my airplane, they're going to have "grand theft airplane" charges filed against them.... I'd be pissed.

VFR travel in midwest at Christmastime with baby - bad idea?

Here's a long lesson from a guy who's been flying for 25 years, with 1500 hours, an MEI license and flies a C340 that's certified into known icing. Make yourself a couple of airline reservations. If it's something important like Christmas, or if I have a business meeting where I HAVE to be...

Pinch me, I must be dreaming...

That's what I meant by the word "risk" of the landing gear on Cessna singles. The term I always used was "Icabod Crane landing gear" to describe it. It's just too awkward and clumsy for me.

Pinch me, I must be dreaming...

yabbut....hookers don't stick around long enough afterwards to scratch your back. ....and there's nothing like owning the keys to your own boat and airplane if you can afford it. As far as an airplane of that size/catagory.....pulling the gear up isn't going to save you a whole lot of time on...

neat history: Spirit of St. Louis technical prep documents

I've seen this before, and heard all the stories...over and over and over again....lol. Ed Morrow, who was in charge of the fittings was my grandfather in-law (ex-wife's grandfather) until he died several years ago. I used to spend hours at the SDiego Aerospace museum with him hearing all the...
