As someone who came up through the ranks paying my dues as it's said, as a CFI for a couple years then a Beech 18 freight dog and finally a regional I felt I was prepared at that point for any thing the training department wanted to throw at me. There was a lot of on the job training so to...
As someone working overseas I would like to know how as a U.S. citizen you can earn all this money virtually tax free as you say. If you have a United States passport, you owe Uncle Sam at the very least 15% for the privilege of having that document.
It's done all the time. Guys get Chinese 787, 330 etc. they then come back here or Canada and pay for it out of pocket to have one of the training centers run you through a short course.
Seriously, and your not happy with that setup? Unless your flight department is in peril of imminent closure, I would say on the surface you got a sweet deal. The grass isn't always greener.
And most of the Taiwanese can't wait to finish their contracts with Sichuan and move on. Interesting they require Taiwanese . All the Sichuan airline Taiwanese I speak to speak pretty good english.
Apologize for hijacking this thread with all my best to those involved in the loss....but yes I learned a lot as well. No autopilot,no auto thrust, non pressurized,no map display! My god how did we fly 6 leg days during the winter all with approaches down to minimums and half of those NDB's...
Every time I think that the 320 pilot pool has dried up and there are no more guys that will come here I am always wrong. There is always an airline somewhere in the world closing down or furloughing it's pilots. Does every Mexican have a 320 rating(sarcasm), Europeans, South Americans, now...
Well it's really just cultural. The Chinese teach that learning comes from punishment. You break one of their rules regardless of the reason...Bam! We on the other hand ask why, what was the reason. Was there a purpose to your action? Ok, don't do it again.
Asiana. Again a big operating...
I can't disagree with WYOMINGPILOT one iota. Things have changed since I first came in 2009 and not for the better. So far my personal situation here remains stable but that can change every six months as stated. But let's be honest. Even back in the U.S. we have a jeopardy event every six...
I am net taxes here in China. The company does give us the tax receipts that they pay on our behalf so you can file either way with the foreign income exclusion or or your taxes paid method.
I zeroed out my fed taxes this year with the exclusion on earnings of 180k.
Everything I have been promised has been delivered. But they don't make a lot of promises either. I have been "fairly" treated here in almost four years now. I will say I don't feel as special as I did early in the job though. More overnights and more routes are open to foreigner captains so...
I have been on both sides of this medical situation now. The U.S.A. standard of finding the easiest AME to get past and the one I currently cannot escape, the Chinese. I have mentioned this before on these boards that at least a third of the U.S. pilot force would fail a Chinese medical on...
And Andy, you still haven't answered my question: What is behind your enthusiasm for unnecessarily jeopardizing someone's livelihood?
What Are the Side Effects of Sleep Apnea?
Answer

I don't know of any Chinese carriers that are pay to play....some will take you without the type rating and cover all costs. But you better pass. But I think that is a fair gamble.
