    SWA MDW Meltdown

MDW Meltdown?? For the record... There hasn't been much of anything melting in Chicago for the last 4 days. Frickin' BRRRR :D

Thanks for the support..... I think. ;):D

    Air Force Fighter Pilot Shortage

It sounds like you're saying that if a person had only rotary wing experience, they would be able to use that skill foundation to have some basic success during a first attempt flying fixed wing. But, the reverse would not be true. A fixed wing pilot can't take his skill set and extend it to...

    Air Force Fighter Pilot Shortage

I'll have to take your word on that since I have only flown fighters and various airliners - no rotary wing. So, I wouldn't feel qualified to make such a definitive statement. Since you must have flown both fighters and rotary wing to develop such an opinion, maybe you can give us the scoop...

    Air Force Fighter Pilot Shortage

Both of you seem to have tunnel vision. I'm agreeing with you!! I don't think it's necessary to attend college in order to be a good pilot. Period. dot. Okay? I think it might help some and not have much effect on others. It really depend on the person and their strengths/weaknesses. My...

    Air Force Fighter Pilot Shortage

You can split hairs if you like. IMO, 45 years falls in the "give or take" slop. I know there were a few oddball situations in the 60's. The title and subject of this thread, however, is fighter pilots. I don't put rotary wing and fighters in the same category, so I really don't care what the...

    Air Force Fighter Pilot Shortage

The degree requirement isn't to fly aircraft for the military. It's to be commissioned as an officer. It just so happens that for the last, at least 50 years (give or take), the US military has only allowed officers to be trained as pilots. I'm sure there are plenty of non-college grads who...

    question for UPS/FedEx crews

At FedEx, our MD-11 lower cargo compartments are all class-C. We don't have 767s yet, so I'm not sure how they'll be equipped once we get them. Nothing has changed "in light of" Dubai because no regulations have changed. FedEx (and I'm guessing UPS too) does nothing "out of the ordinary"...

    ROTC question

The military services have their own flight schools (remember?). ;) They don't give ROTC scholarships to aviation majors. Typically, the most desirable majors are technically oriented (Engineering, etc.). A very small number of scholarships are offered to non-technical majors. It all...

    FedEx

The qualifications section under pilot careers has this bullet: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university I don't think an online degree is ruled out simply because it's online. You'll need to check to see if your degree is from a properly accredited school. Here's a...

    FedEx Interviews

I suggest you start visiting airlinepilotcentral.com if you're not already. There's a lot more info there on this subject than over here on FI.

FAA Proposes to Raise Airline Pilot Qualification Standards

Doubt it. The only companies that might try to fight this or that this will affect will be regionals. I think they'll be swimming upstream because they're exactly who this rule is targeting. These days, major airline/cargo companies hardly ever hire anyone who can't already get an ATP.

    FedEx

10 newbies started this week (not sure which day). Unknown if the window is open for new apps. I believe they are actively interviewing and will be hiring regularly for now.

    Pro-Diem?

There's a good thread on this in the money section of airlinepilotcentral.

    FedEx FDA

    80 kt call out

BoilerUP, Hugh J, and svcta: We’ve had a pretty good (very unique to FI) exchange of viewpoints and ideas on this up to now. I’d really like to keep it going, so maybe we can tone down the sarcasm a bit. You don’t have to agree with my opinion, but you don’t have to take us down the normal...

    80 kt call out

From my experience(only 121/mil), this is NOT the norm. Every company I've worked for has made it clear that there is only one PIC when it comes to a reject. It's his call...... period. The F/O can call out any condition that he feels might warrant the Captain's attention, but the Captain is...

    80 kt call out

When you say ANY failure, do you mean just that? Anything? A master caution for a hydraulic failure and an engine failure are worlds apart when it comes to committing to a high speed abort just prior to V1. How about a tire failure? Your takeoff data goes out the window if you blow a tire and...

    FEDEX Poolies???

No seat lock on the panel. The ability to bid off basically comes down to when the next bid will be. They have been averaging one a year so I would plan on spending the first year on the panel for now. Bids are trained out in seniority so even if you get a bid off the panel in your first 6...
