I am thinking of attending this year's AOPA Expo in Tampa. Has anyone been to previous Expo's? If so, I would appreciate any recommendations on attending.
For me, it's about a 1-1/2 to 2 hour drive each way, plus $35 cost of admission. I am not cheap, just a flight instructor on a limited...
Situation, IFR - lose communications, fly to destination and cannot get below minimums. What would you do?
Do you fly to your alternate after executing the missed approach?
When do you start the leave the hold on the missed to fly to the alternate?
Which route do you take to your...
Anyone have any experience with Continental's FADEC system?
Pros/Cons welcome.

Has anyone seen a shuttle re-entry, particularly at night? STS114 is scheduled back Monday morning at 4:46 am EDT. Just wondering what to expect or what to look for. The news stated there would be a sonic boom.
I have not seen any TFRs yet for the re-entry time-frame either.
Return to Flight Moves to Tuesday, July 26, 2005
Launch Date: July 26
Launch Time: 10:39 a.m. EDT
From NASA Press Release:
“With some work still to go, NASA is moving toward a new launch attempt for the Space Shuttle Discovery Tuesday, July 26, at 10:39 a.m. EDT. Engineers are wrapping up a...
I have been posed this question, and have been unable to find an answer, so thought I would toss it out on Flightinfo.
How many revolutions of the prop does it take for the tachometer time to move forward 1/10th?
Today while entering the pattern, my student reported "Cessna 12345 left midfield downwind for RWY 30."
Tower told the student to "continue downwind, hold on the base leg."
This was the first I have heard this in an airplane. We have a lot of helicopter operations and they are often told to...
I remember once seeing an FAA link to a site which lists the tests the FAA uses to determine if a pilot reads, writes, speaks and understands the English language. I have been searching again to no avail.
Does anyone happen to have a site or place I can get this information? Thanks.
A single engine plane was forced to make an emergency landing on Atlantic Boulevard.
No one was hurt in the landing. The pilot apparently put the plane down on a busy street during rush hour, did not touch a thing, no power lines, no traffic lights, no light posts. The cops towed the plane...
Logging landings... As I understand it, in order to log a landing, even as a CFI, I must be the sole manipulator of the controls. Per 61.57, I felt that even as a CFI, I have to be the sole manipulator of the controls on that landing, meaning in my interpretation if we are both on the controls...
Anyone know of any restrictions on a CFI giving a flight review on an ultra-light experimental single engine land aircraft?
Does the person giving the flight review need to have any kind of experimental aircraft ratings? Or is it just appropirately rated in the category and class?
I seem to remember hearing that (on single-engine piston airplanes) that the fuel gauges, per the regulations, need to only read accurately when the tanks are empty.
I cannot find the reg on this. Anyone hear of this or know which reg?
Per 61.56 (c)(2) a person must have "A logbook endorsed from an authorized instrutor who gave the review certifying that the person has satisfactorily completed the review."
Does this mean the same instructor must give both the oral portion and the flight portion or can one instructor provide...
Anyone have any good information on assymetrical training on a multi-engine?
I want to introduce my students to this prior to teaching them engine out procedures. I want to work on the building blocks of differential power, and have the student identify aircraft control when one engine has...
Can a CFII log the instrument approaches which his/her students have shot?
I know a CFII can log actual instrument time during the portion of the flight when in actual IMC. When can a CFII log the instrument approach? Is it any approach where the student went down to MDA or DA? Inside the...
My commercial student and I have been practicing steep spirals in the Piper Arrow, getting him ready for his checkride. My question is gear up or gear down? We glide at 79 knots, prop full forward, yet I have not been able to find an answer on gear. My chief pilot recommends gear down as you...
