Its not the 1st year pay, hell CAL pays $30hr 1st yr. It that when pay was negoiated for the 170/700/900, it was far lower than what a mainline would pay. Those plane are compariable to the old DC9s, F100 and the pay is close to half. The problem started when mainline was shrinking their fleet...
The 7yrs I did at XJT(5 as CA), I never had to take the controls from anyone except from VH(twice)...who was also turned in from 2 other CA's for the same reason. Guess that never made it to her testimonal.

It forces us that are at 2-4 yr pay to start thinking about 190 CA since thats were the growth will be. We won't see 320 CA until retirement!......How many upgrades did we have on this last bid? NONE!
They close the flights 30 min prior now. Just ran into this problem this week on a double DH. We got to the gate at 1500 for a 1530 departure and the flight was closed!, the only reason we got on was because we were flying the plane back. So if you are not checked in 30 prior, its a no go!
