You wouldn't be talking about the infamous USAirways pilot who was in a Wall Street Journal article a few years ago about how great life is at Emirates.
Go to Pprune to see what other EK line pilots think about the guy. They've nicknamed him "Captain America" and shredded every positive...
If you come to Lubumbashi, Congo, where I've been working for approx the last 2 years with Air Serv, you can have your choice of old school airplanes to fly.
I've seen some CV-580s flying around this country.
The entire Congo, and especially my home airport of Lubumbashi, is like an aviation...
Ty - aren't you sitting decent at AirTran as a B737 capt? Must be bad if you're thinking of changing careers. Though the company is playing hardball in the contract negotiations, from this outsider perspective I think you guys will survive in this topsy turvy industry.
Yes - they do take the King Airs into a lot of dirt fields in the DRC. I only got about 50hrs flying it around here, but I've seen pictures of it caked in mud.....
But, I returned to my senses and came back to the Caravan. King Air flying is boring in the Congo - punch up to FL250, and cruise...
Hey, it ain't that bad.
Both myself and the recently-retired JohnnyP were way over the Air Serv hour requirements when we were brought aboard, but the important thing to note is that we are here because we WANT to be here, helping out in the humanitarian air links that Air Serv provides...
Hey, I'm 100% malaria-free and have been since stepping foot on the African continent!
Enjoy your time in DXB (shouldn't you be doing things other than posting on FI) and then your week at the beach. I'll think of you while I'm schelpin' my therapeutic milk and vaccinations around the DRC...
Air Serv, an American humanitarian aviation organization, is usually looking for pilots.
I'm currently working for them in the Congo. We also have operations in Mozambique, Uganda, and Chad. Additionally, we're always needing people for our Afghanistan operation.
The work is hard but...
This is a fairly common occurance. I had it happen to me a couple times when I tried to jumpseat with Air Canada in the past.
There is a 1-800 # where you can talk to Air Canada crew schedulers, they will list you as a standby on the flight, give you a ~ estimate of the loads, and even notify...
Amen to that.
This website used to be a great resource for professional pilots.
Now, it appears the moderators are asleep at the switch.
And unfortunately they're letting the high school crowd take over.
Just stop for a minute and think of some of the great members of FlightInfo's past...
If the 328 prop was anything like its sibling, the 328Jet, it was a good airplane with a slew of maintenance issues....not just a handful of recurring problems but like 20-25 things that broke on an all too regular basis.
I believe Horizon had a big fleet of 328props - I also recall hearing...
Hmmm, here's my definition of a really BAD trip:
You make more in PER DIEM than you do in flight pay.
This trip comes pretty close to that criteria.
At Shuttle America 1st year pay according to Airline Pilot Central is $23/hr
Lets assume the trip will unfold exactly as the schedule...

-Did he give any reasons why? You guys seem to be gradually adding different levels of capacity (eg Challenger 300 and most recently Lear 40) and wouldn't something to compete with the NetJet Gulfstreams at the top level be appropriate?
If not the Global, what about the Global 5000...
My comment regarding the CitationShares guy taking a gamble was about him rolling the dice to some extent by leaving CS to go to CAL.
I think BOTH places are great places to work at, and to be sitting at one while contemplating an offer from the other has to be gut-wrenching.
I trust the...
Kind of interesting - most of their newhires seem to come from a regional 121 background. Very few military folks. One CitationShares guy - that's an interesting gamble.....

I remember in 1999, AOPA Pilot ran an article on the back page about a FedEx FE (retired line pilot) who had been a fighter pilot in WWII - this guy was in his low 80s. Anybody know if this guy is still active - this guy's career seemed an amazing story.
Any updates on how the operation is going?
I have heard about how Hawaiian is challenging GO in court. I'm just curious and would welcome any perspectives from people who've dealt with GO in one capacity or another.
