    Vision Correction

I had LASIK in 2005, best decision I ever made. I now have to wear reading glasses, but being late 40's I probably would have to anyway. But being able to wake up and see without fumbling for glasses, well there is nothing like it. I was about -6.75 before, and at least 20/20 after. No...

    Regional CFI's

They did it in ATL for many years, but stopped I believe in 2006 for some reason. I got mine renewed 3 or 4 times through them, then had to do start using FIRCs.

    Logbook Pro

I use it, but mainly for the APDL companion program. Nothing easier to use, and it beats the snot out of the old red book. But I still keep a paper logbook as my master, and that is what I used at my interview.

    Compass FAs Quarrel Delays Flight?

I had one of ASA's senior mammas go after a new girl on leg 1 of a 4 day. After we deplaned, the new girl was in tears, and din't want to continue. I told miss senior that she was going to apologize and make nice for the rest of the 4 day, or I was having her replaced. She screamed at me that...

    Does Turobtax work for crew?

My question is, why are you guys trying to get a bigger refund, which is just paying less in taxes. After all, isn't it patriotic to pay more taxes? :)

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

OK, it is not a certification requirement, it is something that each operator can request. But it is the default that G/S capture be inhibited until LOC capture has initiated.

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

I believe it is a certification requirement, period. I am attempting to verify that. And since you are apparently reading impaired, I already stated, SEVERAL TIMES, that while all 3 aircraft that I am typed in have autopilots that are designed to NOT CAPTURE the GS until LOC captures, there...

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

But, I would almost bet that your FOM also states for both aircraft that G/S capure is inhibited until LOC capture occurs. I believe that is a certification requirement of autopilots. I already stated that although each and every aircraft I have flown is designed like that, I have had several...

Fine. Your's are programmed that way. Ours aren't, and I posted the passage from our Flight Manual.

Not so good news about flight 3407

That's pretty much what happened with Challenger.

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

I have many times, on several aircraft types, when APPR was armed the LOC signal would jump, erroniously, causing the A/P to try to capture it. Since the GS needle is off scale top, the AP would try to climb to catch it while the AP started a turn to catch the false LOC, since it thinks it has...

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

So that means that it couldn't have bitten someone? The Rockies have been there for 20 million years, but every now and then someone flies into them.

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

Well, FWIW, I got into the habit of arming LOC only until it was captured, then arming the ILS because I had it bite me a couple of times while on the ATR.

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

From section 6.4 page 17 of the CAL 737 flight manual: "Glideslope capture is inhibited prior to localizer capture." It is true of all transport catagory aircraft because often times the G/S is unreliable more than 30 degrees or so off the loc, and often the mode is armed outside of that arc.

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

I had it a couple of times into ATL on the ATR as well. 27L if I remember right, before they built 10/28.

SWA Safety ALERT RW 23 ILS KBUF

That can be said for all transport category autopilots. But on a 30 degree intercept the loc will begin it's capture about 2 dots out, sometimes a little more than that, and that enables the G/S to start it's capture. If there is really some earthbound obstruction causing a problem that would...

Not so good news about flight 3407

The AOA sensor adjusts in the ATR, I would bet it does in the Q400 as well.

Another tax and per diem taxes question

Most companies report your daily per diem (day trips only) as income, because the IRS views it as such. But most of us have very little of it, so it isn't a big deal.

Not so good news about flight 3407

But the left wing wasn't. That sentence right there should tell you all you need to know about the average reporter when dealing with aviation.
