    Europe Ramp check and SMS

Yes, we always have a compliance sheet (we're on Avtrack) with us, in particular when we leave the country.

    Europe Ramp check and SMS

We had the displeasure of one at Le Bourget. It was hands down the most extensive check of this type I've ever been through. There were two inspectors, one for ops and one for mx. The ops inspector went through ALL of our paperwork, and I mean ALL of it. He even went through the Jepps...

Pop up trip to Cabo San Lucas...

Is the Trailer Park still around? I heard it'd shut down. Best lobster I've ever had.

Hopefully they'll at least give us the courtesy of a reach-around...

    G-IV overrun CYQX

The Madison's been smokin' lately, especially down in the Bear Trap. The Gallatin's always pretty good. Even when it's bad...it's still pretty good. Reaching for the PAL is a conditioned response for us now, the three things we do now when the CAS lights up are: 1. Reach for the PAL 2...

    Warbirds in Montana?

There are several. Near Whitefish, MT lives a fellow named Jim Smith that has quite a collection at his private strip. Mustang, Corsair, even a Seafire; complete with a griffon engine and contra-rotating props; and several more. The owner of SemiTool out of Kalispell also has a really nice...

    Citation X's and ASE

I was in ASE the other day on a drop off, and was standing on the ramp as a X took off. It made a loud, rhythmic popping noise as it accelerated down the runway, and I thought I was watching a jet shuck a motor. In talking to another pilot, he mentioned that he'd heard it before there at ASE...

    "Clear" ceasing operations

For those of you with a "Clear" card, use it to pick your next locked door, stabilized that wobbly card table, or give it to your kid to put in the spokes of his/her bike to make those "cool" motorcycle sounds. That's all it's good for now. This is from an email I just received:

    MMSD Handlers

Call the FBO and ask for Victor, Adrian, or Edgar. Any one of them will do a great job for you. If you call a handling service, it's one of these guys they'll likely call anyway. Been using 'em for years. They're all good.

    "Insurable" What does it take?????

The exception being turbine warbirds, they require 1000TT, and an experimental aircraft authorization (think type rating for an experimental aircraft).

    7X deliveries

I have no idea. The situation I described is one that was related to me by one of the other pilots I fly with who happens to know the crew involved. According to him, the principle got off the plane after it landed and said, "Sell that POS"...I'm paraphrasing, of course. As to the flight...

    7X deliveries

That would be due to it's little episode over in Hawaii a few months ago. An electrical problem turned into a lot more. The checklist for said problem instructed the pilots to tie the busses, which the pilots weren't real keen on doing (and I don't really blame 'em), considering the nature of...

    Turks and Caicos

Don't forget the Tikki Hut down in Turtle Bay. I can't remember if it's Wed. nights or Thurs. nights they have an all you can eat crab-leg feast. Have a piece of their key-lime pie...I've never had better.

What do you say when people ask who you work for?

That'd shut me up in a nanosecond and send me packing!! Although I fly for a well known individual, the plane is managed, so they get told the name of the management company and left at that.

    Learjet 45 crashes in Telluride

I remember buying my first "KTEX" shirt a few years ago, the one that said, "Most planes fly at 9078', we land". I've always worn that shirt with pride, I considered it a minor rite of passage as a corp pilot.
