House Passes Airline Safety and Pilot Training Improvement Act of 2009

Among other things, this would require every airline pilot to have an ATP. It passed overwhelmingly, 409 to 11. Now to the Senate... http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/10/14/2098878.aspx

Republic to operate EMB-190s for Midwest

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. At least the FOs get to feel extra special by flying a bigger airplane for the same paycheck as flying a 135 with 1/3 as many seats! But it's ok, cause the engines are under the wings. MILWAUKEE & INDIANAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Midwest Airlines...

Randy Babbitt to be FAA Administrator

It keeps getting better, ASA nonrev fees increase

Not only did the activation fee double, we have to pay additional for spouse/parents/travel companions. What a great "benefit" -- not only is it nearly impossible to get a seat, we have to pay about as much as a ticket to even try!

    CHQ CRJs

Heard from a friend there that you are losing your CRJs? He didn't seem to know much more other than they will be phased out. Any truth to this? What are you guys replacing them with? (don't say the E-Jets for CAL!)

Leaving a regional before reaching 1000 PIC?

I was having a conversation the other day with some friends and we were discussing this very topic. Figured I'd throw it out for further discussion. With pretty much all the majors hiring now, is 1000 PIC that important anymore? I mean, the goal of getting that time was to get the better job...

Asa Crew Schedulers to pick new hotels

I am truly at a loss of words. If this didn't affect my life as much I would really find this funny. So yes, the same people that make you sit around the airport calling back every hour after your trip cancels or build three day trips with only deadhead flying will now visit and select crew...

Asa Non-contract employees to receive pay raises

Just read a nice letter from BL about how everybody in the company will be getting raises effective July 1st except for the contract employees. Every non-contract employee will receive at least a 2-3% raise. I don't know about you, but I haven't had a raise in 5 years. Time for the company to...

"Big Announcement" about ATL hub for ASA tomorrow

Just heard that there is supposedly going to be some sort of a convo tomorrow about the ATL hub. Evidently the big cheese is going to be there himself with some other middle management types. Any guesses?

    Ship 703... gone

A little birdie told me that ship 703 was transferred to the other side. Unfortunately this required cancellation of several scheduled flights because ASA did not have any spare aircraft to accomplish the flights scheduled for 703. I guess union busting is more important to SGU than operating...

Attention newhire SkyWest pilots: You can talk to ASA pilots!

So I just got back from Flightsafety on a LOFT. That place was crawling with newhire SkyWest guys using the ASA sims. As anybody who has ever spent some time at FSI knows, the break room (especially around the coffee machines) seems to attract pilots. I saw a bunch of SkyWest pilots standing...

    ASA lines blow

I haven't had too much time to dive into them, but from what I've seen the Feb. lines absolutely suck. Between the multitude of day lines back to back with multi-day trips, the 30+ hour overnights in prime locations, completely random pairing construction (whatever happened to doing the same...

"Aviation Expert" on CNN is a Student Pilot

I kid you not, I'm watching CNN right now with coverage of the Southwest incident, and they're interviewing a guy. The newscaster is baiting him with questions like "why was the plane allowed to land if conditions were so bad?" and "Why did the nose gear collapse?" The supposed "expert"...

    State of ASA contract negotiations

I'm no expert on labor law or union proceedings, but I know some on this board are. What I'm wondering is what will happen to the state of the ASA contract in negotiations? Would SkyWest be within their right to say at the next negotiation session, "We didn't agree to any of this so in our...
