Just wanted to jump in on this whole line of discussion, it actually brought a smile to my face. The perfect mix of sarcasim and truth. I appreciate Dixie for paying for my flight training (standard taxpayer burden) and welcome him to jump on the bandwagon. It's always been fun and games in the military (Oh wait, maybe it wasn't all fun-- let me brush the sand out of my tooth brush).

What ever happened to the whole stun gun idea. I know it was horrible (I keep having images of someone discharging the "shocker" next to the refueling truck, or even better, casually shocking an annoying passenger). Are we supposed to be getting any better pay for now packing heat and covering the job of an airmarshal? or is this a straight volunteer gig?
 
Does anyone have anything to contribute that in any way addresses the original danm question?

And check skirts profile Dixie. She's probably been logging time since long before this liberal left coast affirmative action B.S. She'd probably be happy to take your candy a$$ to school if you'd ask nicely.

As it was explained to me, the program lasts a week and the applicant has to pay for the class on their own. The class costs about $6000, plus you have to pay out of pocket for you hotel and meal expenses also. From what I was told, only the first class of 42 was allowed to waive the enrollment fee.

It looks like the feds still dont want us to carry firearms. So they have made the process so expensive and complicated that it will deter many form even applying.

As for Skirt taking me to school,.....only if she pays for it:)
 
Dixie....is this info posted somewhere? If this is all true then scr.ew that. I'm supposed to take the computer question thing tomorrow, but if this is how it's gonna be there no way I'm fighting my way through ATL traffic just to go to a even bigger screw job than the one I already have being a regional F/O. Thanks for intelligent post this time AD
 
The cost of the training is covered by TSA, however the applicant has to pay for travel, lodgeing and associated expenses ie your food and drink. Check out the web site www.tsa.gov

what i understand...

First off, I don't work in the airline industry yet, I'm working on my PPL right now, but what I've been told by people that do work for airlines and TSA (no, not a screener) is that supposidly the gun of choice is a .40 Glock. Also, there is a special gov't load used that will kill a person, but won't have an exit wound.


BTW, haven't some pilots carried before? my sister was a FA and I thought I remember she telling me once that some pilots did carry a gun when they flew.

There were a spate of hijackings in the '60's (mostly wackos trying to get to Cuba). After one hijacking gone very bad, one of the pilots was shot (and I think killed), there was a movement to arm flight crews. I think it did happen for some time.

Anyone have any more precise information? Specifically, what airline was involved in the shooting incident? I seem to recall it was a smaller regional airline.

It would be interesting to know the history of that incident. My sister was a FA from '98-'01. She left the company she worked for shortly after 9/11, but not because of fear, because she wasn't earning enough money. I thought it was interesting to hear that during her time she knew of pilots who carried guns.
